new guy with some questions
hi im new here and last night i was givin a very rough 49 hudson 4door by my girlfriends grandpa. this car is missing both doors and the rear fender on the passenger side and is also missing the motor except for some various parts in the back seat including a aluminum intake. However the chrome peices and emblems are in good condition. My main questions are how hard would the doors and fenders be to find if i decide to fix it or is there a good market for the emblems and such trim if i decide to part it out.

Your best bet would be to join the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club - information at www.hudsonclub.org. You can also contact Ken Amman by e-mail @ kamman@power-net.net or call him at (810) 621-3665, as I'm sure he can help you out on the doors, maybe the rear quarter panel. As for an engine, they are still available in various states of condition. What part of the country are you in? There are some 3800 members of the club scattered around the country and the world, and all would be more than happy to help you find the items you need for your car. Welcome to the Hudson Forum!

You should be able to find used doors and fenders without too much problem. New engine parts are available too. But you have to stop and ask yourself where you'd be headed with this. If the car intrigues you and you're looking for a rewarding project, then by all means go ahead. If you intend to fix this up and sell it at a profit, stop! Four-door cars simply don't return the investment. You'll end up putting $40,000 worth of time and money into a $20,000 car. Most of us Hudson guys undertook our restorations as a labor of love, and we have reaped the benefits of ownership over the long run. It's a hobby. We didn't do this with the expectation of making any money on our hobby! So, be warned!
Should you decide to go ahead with this, please check the condition of the frame in the vicinity of the rear wheel wells, and behind. This is unit-bodied car, and the frame tends to "go" in these areas if the car is left outside for a number of years. It can be very expensive to replace, unless you do your own work. Many a Hudson "newbie" has paid good money for a nice-looking car, and invested more money in it, only to discover to his horror that the "frame is rotten and several thousands of dollars must be spent just to restore the basic foundation of the car. If your frame is in good shape, then you have a good basis for restoration.0 -
hey flatbedford, depending on where you live may depend some on what you decide for your car. I do know where to get all the doors and really about everything else you'll need for your car. I'm in Texas and have been offered all four sedan doors from a friend but I only need one. Also if you're not a purist you will find a ford 300 is a nice fit in a stepdown. I know a fellow with more than enough goodies to restore your car if you want to stay with a 262 flat-head. As you've been warned already though, unless you have a lot of restoration savvy of your own the car will be for personal joy not cash.0

thanks for the replies and im not worried about keepin it original cuz it would take way more work than it would be worth. As far as the motor ill find somethin i even have a 300 ford block sitting in the shop i could use or find some big block.:) im in sheridan wyo and im excited about all the poeple who said had the parts. wat would be a fair price to pay for the doors and fender as i dont know any thing about these cars or wat they are worth. my plans for it if i do fix it would to be just to put it together and get it drivable and go cruisin. Im also not afraid of body work so even a very rough set of doors would do.0
