Brand new to the thread and it seems pretty sweet. I recently aquired a 49 4door and was wondering if any one has done a two door conversion. I am sure I am gonna catch crap for this but just humor me. Any info on the conversion would be great. Thanks for the help

  • You shouldn't catch any crap Newbie, lots of custom Huds out there and nothin wrong with that, just keeps things interesting. If anybody gives ya crap just let RPM know about it, don't know what to do about it but just let me know. welcome
I'm new to the boards too
    not new to Hudsons

I'm curious....why go to all the trouble, when there are Hudsons available in two 2-door body configurations? I mean....go ahead if you wish, but it would seem to make more sense to conserve your money and time and invest it in making some other improvement to the car?

I agree with Jon B it does seem like alot work when 2-door body configurations are available stock. As far other improvement to the car goes have you check under the rear of the car for rust. These type of Hudsons are very prone to rusting this area.
  • I would make a 2 door brougham on one side, and a 4 door on the other.. and say it is the factory prototype

You could do it to yours this summer. Just a little more block sanding.

I would rather have a 4 door than a brougham....

    if you want to know.......

here's the unofficial list of hudsons...

    convertible

    coupe

    4 door

    hollywood

    brougham

and the only reason a hollywood is higher than a brougham, is because you could actually make a "convertible" out of what you got.... with the right parts, of course....

Contact mrsbojigger here on the forum. He's currently turning a 4 dr. into a Hollywood and doing an awesome job. His metalworking skills are top notch. If you need an e-mail address, I've got that as well.

Are you aware that Hudson's are basically uni-body cars? ...outside of that, if you want a 2 door sedan, get a brougham and put all the work into fixing it up the way you want it.

I mean sure if you just happen to be handy with a torch and want to do it as a "fun" welding project fine. But otherwise you can save a boatload of work getting one of what the factory offered...they're generally not a very expensive body type.

    Hey Buster,
Don't worry about the "crap" from some people, it's YOUR car and you can do what you want to with it. Besides in a few hundred years all these cars will have melted into the ground and turned back to dirt. There are a couple of us "mavericks" building 2-door cars from 4-door sedans. Track down posts by BlueNash. His is interesting the way he used all the car's original sheet metal to achieve the end result! He is doing it one way and I am doing it another way. We will both have our dream car in the end and ride in style.
P.S. If it would make you feel more comfortable, switch your posts over to the sub-forum titled "street rods". This is where we have been posting.
    Peace,
    Chaz
  • Yeah thanks for the info, but it is my great grandfathers car and I had it given to me. I am not afraid of the amount of work or time I will have to put into it. I just thought it would be an interesting build.

    Let's see . . . "my GREAT grandfathers car . . ." Boy, that'll make some HUDNUTS feel a little old!

On a serious note, you bet it's your build! Do what's gonna make you happiest and proudest.

I'm impressed with the chop job thats going on presently on that silver brougham. I think if I found a pacemaker Brougham the lid would come down. That's got to move it up the list. I'd need your help of course, as Hudsonmom may not hold her side of the roof properly to tack it in place.

Did you know the AMC Pacer drivers door is shorter than the passenger door by a couple of inches?
  • Well that ain't right, everyone knows the wife is shorter than the husband so her door should be shorter. No wonder the pacer failed.

I don't remember the years, but GM offered that on the Suburban. Practical for parallel parking with the kids in the car, as they can only exit on the pass. side. I kinda like the idea myself.
