Generator Wire Terminals

I am working one wiring now and am have great difficulty getting one nut off a terminal of the generator. It is the engine side, smaller one.

It would seem that the threads are stripped as the nut just spins and does come off.

I am holding the lower nut so as not to remove the stud.

Any suggestions short of removing the generator and having it professionally serviced? It is a working unit.

Also, what should the TPI be on both terminals?

Just get a large screwdriver under the nut and lever it off. Either the nut or the stud is stripped. The Field terminal is 3/16" NF, and the Armature terminal is 1/4" NF. If the nut is stripped you will be okay wwith a new nut, but if the stud is stripped you can try running 5/32" or No. 8 die nut down it and using a smaller nut. Otherwise you will have to replace the stud, which entails getting inside the casing, being careful not to twist or damage the wire from the field coils. Good luck,

    Geoff.
  • Thank you. I greatly appreciate the size information.

The size of the Nut-Generator Terminal A and Terminal F are NOT given in the parts manual.
