Correct 49 Door Mirrors?

Dennis, The choice is yours simply because outside rear view mirrors were an option . You could buy them from your dealer or you could buy them from Western Auto. Any mirror that is period correct is fine. Generally if it is period correct it's a clamp type mirror that uses a set screw to attatch to the door frame.0

I think PAUL SCHUSTER (LARGETYPE) has them for sale.0

Many thanks
Optional mirrors installed by Hudson dealers were one type from 1948-1951 and another type 1952-54. Here are pictures of both. Other than the mirror head, shaft also turned for better positioning. Here are some pictures of dirty earlier ones on Nick's 1948. I had the original set restored for his car.0 -
Here is the style that was used from 1952 to 54. Reproductions are available for 235.00 each, but they mount different and shaft does not move.0

Dennis, one thing that makes it tough to find an original photo is that in those years Hudson rarely showed any optional items in their ads or other factory literature. One pretty much had to look in the accessories brochure or catalog to see what those items looked like.0

Having been involved with my father's dealership back in the day, I'd say Dave S is spot on as to the mirrors that were available from Hudson and the years they weere available. It was pretty much a given, when the car came from a distributor or the Hudson Zone inventory, you could bet you would open the trunk when you got it into the shop for cleanup, you'd find not only an outside mirror, but some other miscellaneous accessories (they weren't ordered with the car, but you got them whether you wanted them or not) such as the tissue dispenser, polishing clothes, utility mats, etc. It was a great time! ! !

Thanks to all. Nick's look fantastic. Jay Fisher's repro's are close to that. May go with them unless someone has another idea.
Thanks again0 -

Thanks again
FYI Jay Fisher's reproduction mirrors have solid base and are tapped on bottom. You need to remove interior panel and install bolts from up from the bottom. If you are using two of them, make sure you fit the right mirror before drilling door. Without the moving head, they are a little harder ro align for proper viewing, but they do work fine.0 -

Dave:
From this picture your mirrors on your 52 are mounted higher on the door than Nicks 48. I bought a set of mirrors off Paul last year and according to his template they are to be mounted on the door like Nicks. Do the '52's and later have a different mounting location than the earlier models? Or it was a dealer option as to location?0 -
It was dealer option as to where they were mounted, but the earlier mirror is slightly higher than the 52/54 style.0
