Howdy,

From my understanding, the first serial number of a 1948 Commodore 6 started with 482101000. Mine is 482106006. This puts mine as the 5006th made. Does anyone know of an earlier Commodore 6 or ANY Stepdown period? I already checked the new HET roster under all the 1948 Commodore 6's. FYI: There are approx twenty-five 1948 Commodore 6 sedans listed and twenty-eight 1948 Commodore 8 sedans listed. Thanks, Niels

Check with the roster keeper for the 1948 Hudsons. When I maintained the 52 Roster it listed 100s of serial numbers... more that those listed by owners in the ROSTER.

    Good Luck
  • Hi Ken,

I e-mailed the club and I will follow up. It would be an interesting exercise for the club to try to determine the earliest example and last example Hudson of each year known to still exist. Niels

My commodore. 8 has serial #484101205 which according to your calculations would make it #205, probably the first week of production.

  • Fred... that's going to be a hard one to beat! Question, does yours have a left side DRIVERS side glove box? I've been told that some of the early ones may not have had this yet. My Commodore 6 does not. Niels

Yes, it has left side glove box door. Inside I have a sony radio with ten cd changer in the trunk so I have tunes while cruising. (Irish folk music cranked to the max.)

According to TS 81-4 - 1946-1954 Hudson Model Year Production Run, published in the WTN back around 1981, car serial number 101205 was built in Sept 1948, car serial number 106206 built in October 1948. I have a copy of that tech bulletin, along with most of the ones Art Adams included in the WTN while he was editor in the 1970's.

The breakdown is by serial number blocks by month, ie 96218-104327 - Sept 1948, etc. Production started October 1947, serial number 101 to 860, for 759 units produced.
