Frrrrreeeeeeeeeed up the clutch Yahoo

Thanks to the advice of Hudnutz,I got the clutch freed up. Took some dilagence though. Hnutz said to put a mixture of solvents in the clutch and turn it over three times a day for 3 or 4 days, but what I did was (that), but I drained that mixture (almost black with some crud), then put it in again and kept trying to free it up. After leaving the mixture in overnight I decided that maybe putting the car in gear and using the hand crank I could jump on it to produce enough force to free it. When I positioned the crank to jump on it, it moved. I said I thought I had it in gear. Turns out it wasn't in gear, so I put it in gear and cranked it over. Well it cranked, and the car didn't move. Huh? Basicly the clutch never (broke) free, it just freed up. I drained the mixture, put in the dextron and works like a charm. Now, where can you find a car that's been sitting for 54 years (albeit in the right place), and have all the electrical work (I mean starter, generator, heater, w/minor fixes), engine run again (and healthy)AND, the clutch works too! Where?.... HUDSON BABY I am speachless. I'm amazed. I've had newer cars that had to be all rebuilt. Why do the truely good ones die out early? So the remainders have something to refer to. Hope you guys are all well and having fun. Phil P.S. keep you posted, gonna take this girl out now and see if she'll go

you're supposed to use carbon tet & acetone but I believe carbon tet no longer avail. (I have some I got from a science teacher which they had to get rid of, LOL, which I sparingly use!).
  • I have used straight acetone with success.:)

Spirited discussion on my tractor board about best penetrants- Kroil, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, etc. Several said that a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid will beat them all.

I was told many years ago that Transmission fluid is the best for freeing up stuck engines because of the high detergent in it.

I was turned on to a penetrating oil by somebody in the aircraft industry a few years ago...it has the improbable name of "Mouse Milk." The stuff is excellent.
