Adding heater to '41 Sedan

Hi,

I'd like to add a heater and defroster to my '41 driver. It originally had a SW gasoline heater, which was inop and I removed it. (I don't think I want to use a gasoline heater anyway).

I'd like to know if anyone has had any luck in adding a heater core to the 40's vintage sedans? If so, what parts did you use and where do I find them? I'd like to use something that looks like it belongs on a 40's vintage auto.

Thanks,

Ed

I think same as a '46 so just find a 46-47 heater unit then bolt & wire it up. There probably are 'knockout' plugs on the firewall for the 2 hoses.. The defroster ducts pcs can be screwed under the dash ... Hose is available from JC Whitney, NAPA, Etc. I did this to a '37...
  • I have a heater core bench tested no leaks . Clean ,painted ready to go . I put it on E-Bay at $29.95 no takers . If you want It let me know . Hudson Dave :D352-564-4284

Dave, could you send me a picture, or perhaps reference the eBay number (if it was recent, it still might be on the site). My personal email is edREMOVE@edhamlin.org (remove the word "REMOVE"!).

    Thanks...

the original 1941 deluxe heater is the exact same as tha 46 and 47 hudsons. they are a dime a dozen, and have that perfect "factory" fit!!

Yep, thanks for sending it. I'm thinking about it...

I'm trying to figure out what I need to do - it looks like I need both the heater element and the heater unit with the blower, offers for both of which I have received, plus a heater control valve and some other miscellaneous plumbing.

Does anyone know if there's a good writeup on this, maybe with some suggestions on where to pick off the hot water?

Ed - On the '41 thru '47 splasher engines, there is a pipe plug toward the rear of the top of the head - remove the pipe plug and insert the heater control valve there. There are most likely knock-outs in the firewall for the heater core inlet and outlet to come thru.

Thanks, Jerry! I found the holes in the firewall and the pipe plug. Does the other side of the heater "T'" into the line from the water pump? This is new territory for me, so excuse me for asking dumb questions...
