All my Modifying projects in one Blog

I know I posted on the Forum last week, that Eastwood was taking some pictures of me using "Rust Encapsulator" on my '48, and putting them on their Blog. Well, this is working out better than I thought. I am going to be able to put all my projects of the Hudson on there. That means all the pictures I've taken over the years, showing how I put in a smallblock chevy, 700R-4 tranny, LaBuds disc brakes, Curry-Built Ford 9in rear, etc. can all be seen at one place. I've always thought of getting a website to show this, like Dan did, but I'm not real computer savy. This helps out both Eastwood, and myself. It's a win-win situation, because I've used lots of Eastwood products. Over the years, I've answered literally hundreds of emails, and phone calls as to how I did this stuff. Now, I'll be able to save people from long distance phonecalls. Either go to www.eastwood.com click on "Blogs" click on "Drivers Seat" then click on "Wesley's Hudson". Or the direct link is http://eastwood.squarespace.com/wesleyshudson/ If there's something about those mods you want to see, just ask me in the "comments" section, or post the question here. All I have to do is scan the picture, post the comment, and send to Eastwood. They do the rest. How cool is that?

That's awesome, good for you. It would be great to see how you solved different problems! I think we don't realize how much time someone has taken to "think" a project through, AND to get to see what it looks like when it's all together. This should save a lot of us a lot of time and effort. Thanks for that, and besides, everyone loves to see what the other guys are doing.:)

As for what you said about Dan (Rambo's Ride). I really like his web site too. Maybe we can talk him into making sites for other people, LIKE US. Think about it Dan, could be beer money for ya?!

Any pictures of the headers while you were in the process of making them? Also, did you weld the front or the back side of the mounting flange where the exhaust tubes mount to it? I'd love to make a set,...someday.:cool:That would be cool.
  • I'll be digging through the literally HUNDREDS of pictures I've taken over the years this weekend. I'll look for the header pictures, and get them on the blog as soon as possible. I have over 634 pictures that are in my computer, and boxes and boxes of the ones taken with my 35mm.

And Dan, you really ought to consider that idea. I would have gladly paid someone to set up for me what Eastwood did.

    Hi Guys,

Programming starts @ 50.00 and hour on up - Please form a single file line...no pushing...:D Most of the programming I do is custom web based applications, even 49C8.com is 100% custom code (which I probably have 80 hours into building the basic backend pieces)

Given those costs it's not a real attractive alternative to anyone other than someone with $$ wanting to market a high-end show car and have a fully customized unique website...anyone...anyone....[insert crickets chirpping] :p

Wes - for all that advertising you're giving Eastwood they should be giving you a 25% sponsorship discount :p

Really - Great seeing your work out there on the blog

I've spent several "hundred" dollars ;);) on Eastwoods products, tools, lead, primer ~ you name it, I've bought it from them and I've always been happy with what I've bought and the shipping is prompt (no they're not my sponsor!)

I'm pretty impressed with the Rust Encapsulator products in terms of rust protection/prevention.

I've had my 49 Decklid primered for over 3 years now, sitting outside and the only spot of rust I have found was near a lead repair and I'm more than positive I didn't get all the flux cleaned off properly in that spot!

Okay, let me just throw an idea out there. How about a Hudson "tech" area on this site. Something like the Hamb does. A place where people can see "how-to" do things? Now before everyone verbally assaults me it's just an idea. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with everything the way it is, it's just an idea, and it doesn't look like I could afford a web site right now. ...Sorry Dan.:)

By the way Dan, my wife isn't to happy with you right now. I told her it was your fault that I know about the Mittler Bros. web site. I just had to get the flanging hole punch thing. It's cool as HECK!!![ Thanks bro![/SIZE]:D

I know hotrodders.com has a projects section, lots of people post good stuff there.

Which hole punch did you get - if your wife's mad @ me you must have got a whole set :D

Better yet - did you try it out yet
  • Eastwood has great stuff, for sure. Like I said, it is a fair drive from us, the factory, and store.

I really like the front mount on that SBC, that is a nicely crafted item.

as far as websites, really, if anyone wants one, it isn't the hardest thing in l ife to do. It takes a lot of patience, some $$$ and a few programs, even basic ones to get you going on the web. I do one member of the hudson community's website, and I think it looks pretty decent. I also just took on another project, for a friend of mine who is an artist, wanting to gain exposure and notice, in his later years of life, which has been a fun pursuit as well.

I think that if any of you really want to go the next step, and get a site on line, really explore it. It is pretty fun, when you can find the time to spend working on a site, and modifying it, changing it, and in general just having your little piece of the www.

I bet if you go to the local library, they'll have a book on basic HTML, server space might cost you ~ $100 a year, domain name registration (you know, owning "www.hudsonkid.com", for instance) will be $15 a year, a basic HTML program, like Microsoft front page, or Adobe go live, may run around $200, and that's a guess. For pictures, editing specifically, you may need a photo editing program, which might cost you a little bit more. Check out CNET, they may even have a few programs that are lower priced or free. Just to give you an idea of $$$, Oh, and your time!!!

Quite frankly, I'm surprised that there is seemingly good money in web programming, maybe I need to look into it further, I'm pretty much self taught, but perhaps it would be a better alternative to my daily grind...

I just got a 'few' of the Greenlee type punches but with the added flare thing on it. The whole set was more then I wanted to spend so I didn't get that. And YES! I did try it out. Here's a picture of the first thing I punched. It's going to be for the suicide door project. I got a little carried away with the punching, ...but it will work.

Looks like they cut and form pretty nice,

What gauge sheet metal did you do the holes on?

Did you use a wrench or an impact gun on the tooling (I thought I'd want to use an impact gun...'cause I'm lazee)

HA! I'm even more lazy then you! I bought the little punch press deally(small throat but still good), couldn't see myself wrenching those things. The sheet metal thickness I used was 18 but the guy that sold me the punches has a 'metal worker' and he punches 1/8th inch CRS with the same tooling! I was impressed with that. Yes it does make a pretty nice hole and flange, the pictures actually don't show as nice as they look in person. I'll post another picture of the part welded in. It feels nice to get a good tool that lives up to your expectations, I'm happy. And yes I know the holes on the part would look better flip-flopped.:D
