Re-babbitt issue

We had the rear main bearing cap off my '46 Coupe last week trying to seal it and I noticed that bearing surface was scored just a bit. If I needed to replace the babbit in the rod and main bearings, what all does that entail and who can do it without my having to take a second mortgage out on the house?
Can I remove the bearings and crank and send them to a machine shop such as Egge's or ??????????????????.
I live in Bozeman and as you might imagine we are not overrun with machinists who are qualified to do this.
Thank you.

PS--When the engine is apart, I suspect the rings should be looked at as well and what else???

Jim,
I don't have the answer that you are looking for, but perhaps I can help find one. Model A Fords have babit bearings and thst subject has been beaten to death on the WWW.AHOOGA.COM web site. if you should go there, do a search on Bearings. You will probably more than you want to know and maybe find a machine shop near you that can do the job. Best of luck.0 -
Here's a couple of old threads on the subject:

There is a guy here is Escondido who re-babbits engines, line bores, etc. People send him stuff from all over the county. A six cylinder engine is about $1,200 for rods and mains. His name is Vic Terrell, I can get a phone # if you are interested.0

Harkin machine in Souix Falls SD. and he advertises in Hemmings does an excellent job. Have your mains repoured to semi. Your rods poured to whatever your crank turns to. Then have your block line bored to fit the crank. Not really a big deal. First fine a good engine man.0

How you doing Cliff?. I turned the 33 Terp 8 over to my youngest son who lives in Ottumwa Ia. I figured that my kids need to enjoy the cars now after they both retired from the Navy after 44 years combined service. The oldest has my Model T in Brighton Iowa. They are both having a ball with them. Tom0

Harkin machine is a good place been in business for years, Wow $1200.00 to rebabbit rods and mains, sounds like a good place to stay away from. California prices probably alot higher than the midwest.0

That price includes line boring block, etc. The guy doesn't advertise and he stays busy all of the time. Lots of satified customers!0

I started a re-build of my '46 super six sedan a few months back and had to have #1 rod re-babbitted but I was able to get a brand new #1 still in its original package through Al Saffrahn for $50.00. I thought he said he had alot of them available. The engine is back together and sounds great. Can't help with mains though, I was lucky mine were ok as were 2-6 rods.
