Just want your opinions, whether to seal head bolt threads or not. If so, with what. Thanks. Richie

    Richie;

    I used Permatex Hylomar HPF gasket dressing and flange sealant on my 17 head studs a few years ago and they have held well. I'm sure there are other sealants that will work well also. This one was recommended by another car guy, so I tried it.

    Gene.

    Thanks Gene. Richie.
  • Being that most of the bolts go into the water jacket area,sealing the threads is important. I used Permatex non hardening type. When you install your gasket surfaces must be clean, use a couple of cut off bolts to hold gasket in position, torque in 4 steps. Warm engine up , allow to cool and recheck head bolt torque until torque remains at the maximum. Dale Cooper can set you up with new headbolts and one of the black headgaskets {Best?} . Lou Cote :cool:
