6 Volt alternator question

Hi everyone, I'm installing a 6 volt pos. ground alternator. I like keeping the car 6 volts but want to make that one change to an alternator. Which would be the best gauge to use in place of the light. Amp meter seems to be the obvious choice but how about using a volt meter? Thanks, Richie.

I prefer voltmeters.

I'm with Jim. Voltmeter hookup is much simpler and doesn't add to the voltage loss in the wiring, as an ammeter does.
