Truck update

I 've had my 47 truck home for a few weeks now, and managed to get a couple hours into it. Aside from inspecting it a little better and making a mental "to do" list, I've starting getting the motor ready to try to start.
It's a sb chevy 350, which I have zero experience with before this. It hasn't been run in at least 3-4 years per the previous owner, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's been more like 6-8 years. After replacing the battery post clamps, I was able to short out the solenoid and get the starter to spin. It wouldn't engage however, so I pulled it and found that the bendix wasn't kicking out at all. The solenoid was also intermittant, $50 later I picked up a reman. lifetime warranty one. BTW chevy guys, starter shims?? There's one reason to put a Hornet engine in it! lol
Tonight I put in the new starter, pulled the plugs, and shot a bunch of MMO down each cylinder to let it soak. I cranked the engine a few times and plan to let it soak a day or so before I move on.
Next I want to try to get it fire by jumping out the ignition directly from the battery. What's the best way to do this? This engine has the large delco remy distributor with the coil built in.
By the weekend hopefully I'll have made some more progress and post some pictures.

If it ran previously I would 'jump' the Ign Switch wires first then jump from the battery to the Hot + Terminal at the distributor plug.
Best to check a Wiring Diagram because I do not know the Terminals nor use an HEI Distributor...0 -
We used to use a button starter right on the starter. One side on the hot lead (big nut) and one on the start side (I think the inside small nut), since Chevy has the solenoid on the starter. Not nice like the Ford solenoid which is usually on the nnner fender panel!0

Well, I have to say the cheby is pretty simple. I rigged up a pushbutton to the starter, a switch to the HEI distributor, changed the plugs and she runs.
I think the electric fuel pump is toast, it sounds like an impact wrench. I had another old one around, so I patched it in using a 1 gallon gas can. The engine sounds tight other than an exhaust leak at the right header.
Hopefully I can spend some time on the brakes this weekend.

Not much time for the truck lately. Over the last two months , I sealed the gas tank with KBS , and have a new fuel pump ready to install. In addition to tons of rust, there was a red shop rag in the tank, no rust holes though.
The brake parts have been sitting on my work bench for over 6 months. I've collected a few other parts, had a key made for the glovebox (I was hoping it was the same as the ignition but not so). I pulled the ignition switch to have keys made for it this week. The truck is in the garage with all wheels off ready to begin brake work...
There is some frame repair needed directly before the rear axle, gotta look into that more.
I'm still hoping to have it on the road in some form by early summer.
Between work, house, family, soccer season, etc. the truck took a serious back burner.0
