Wanted TWIN H aircleaner

I need one aircleaner to complete the materials needed to install an original short wheelbase TWIN H setup on my Wasp. The attached picture shows the type I am seeking. Please send me emails with price including shipping. I will consider a dented aircleaner. HETSANJUANA@AOL.COM (DROPHET)

Thanks...

  • Ken, how are they different? I might start looking for a set for my wasp.
  • The air cleaners, I don't think are different, but it seems some of them have higher throats (the part that attaches to the carb) on the SWB set-ups. I don't want to speak for Ken, but I believe that he might very well be ableto use just another air cleaner in this style.

I can say, that a SWB twin H set-up is different. The carbs are different, the manifold is different, and the main linkage is different. I did not know this, until recently, that I was able to handle a SWB set-up in great detail, which was a fun experience, all in all, and as of today, my parts in handling one of these SWB set-up will be coming to a conclusion, to the delight of at least one of the forum members here.

So what's the going rate for a set of air cleaners now?
  • so does that mean the intake manifold for a short wheel base twin h is different than for a hornet?
  • I've been looking at my twin H set up and was thinking that if a person made up a couple of 30 degree elbows with a 2 1/4 inch throat and mount them to the carb, the air cleaners would lift up an out towards the front of the car enough to clear the wiper motor and still be parallel to each other and straight 90 degrees to the motor.

On SWB Wasps & Super Wasps that were factory equiped with Twin H, the rear air cleaner had an offset built into the horn mounting for the rear carb so that it would mount parallel to the front air cleaner and clear the wiper motor. The bad thing about this, is that there were so few Super Wasps factory equiped with Twin H, these special air cleaners are hardly ever seen now a days.

The factory manifold for a SW Twin H has a smaller carburator spread. The carburators are actually smaller than the Hornet Twin H. Therefore when Twin H is installed on the SW cars the clearance issues for the SW base manifold are not as dramatic as when the Hornet intake and carburators are used.

Paul Schuster created a nice compromise for this problem when he restored Baby his 50 PMaker Convertible. Installing a 308 with Twin H required a modified rear air clearner. The attached picture shows the results.

I will be doing the same modification albeit there is more clearance in my installation. I need a good aircleaner to use as the basis of the modification... I have a damaged aircleaner that will donate the right angle portions for this same modification. In addition to that change, I will have to reduce the neck size of my aircleaners, for as Jerry points out the aircleaners for the SW base are smaller diameter to match the smaller carburators used,

    Hope this helps.

Did not know this. I thought only thew runners and ports were the difference... wow, learn something every day.
