'28 Essex with '29 Engine and front axle

The '28 Essex I am parting out has a '29 engine, first series and a '29 front axle with brakes. Is it possible that this was an end of the year car and the parts that fit for the next model year were used. Interestingly enough, it has a Stromber carb, which is also not correct!!! This info was provided a list member, Gino, from Canada. Perhaps this is an early engine swap! Any way, I now have a '29 engine for sale. It ran when I took it out of the car.

It's possible, but unlikely. The radiator outlet would be mis-aligned, and the brakes unbalanced with that set-up. What is the serial number of the car? An awful lot can happen over 76 years. I was once called on to tune up a '27 "all original" Essex sedan with only 40,000 miles, turned out it had a '29 engine, so somebody had done a swap at some stage of the game.
