So i posted my first thread a few weeks ago on hudson clutch plates parts and info .So i tryed the hole flushing or soaking thing and it didnt work so i pulled the tranny out and found not one cork in place they where all completely gone. I have a new one on its why thanks everyone for your help ! The fly wheel and throw out bearing and other parts are in real nice shape. I Will have it going this week . But i have a few new things come up . The water pump is leaking water from what looks behind the pump the ? should i rebuild it myself or buy a new one has anyone rebuilt one ? And the wireing on the hudsons could somone explain how it works the basics on this postive ground thing, this is the first car i have had that works this why ? Alsow its a four door and the door windows where all out of it when i got it so i had to reinstall them with a pile of parts in boxes . I got the rear windows in the rear doors but cant figure out the fronts is there a trick to putting on the front regs ?

  • Hi Gilbert
    If I were you I would purchase a body/shop manual for your stepdown, I think they may be purchased through the club store----rebuilt water pumps are available
    positive ground is even easy for people such as I and I'm electronically challenged, just ground the positive terminal and run all hot leads to the neg side
    good luck, welcome to the boards and happy Hud'n to ya

    Robert,I thought you side you were going to put a V/8 in it when I talked to you today?.I told you how much the water pump was a [which I don't sell]and you liked to had a hemorage! Kinda the same about my price on the Clutch disc ?. You said you could put a V/8 in it alot cheaper?.:confused::eek:

    Robert, you might want to find a "Hudson buddy" near you, and bribe him (with free beer or a good meal!) to come over and personally show you how some of these things work. Like putting the windows into the doors. It's best to find someone with the same year of Hudson as you, of course. And, not all owners work on their cars, so you'd want to ask about that first.

    You could find someone by looking in the roster (if you're an HET member) or if not, contact the nearest chapter near you and find out when the next meet will be. You can then stop in and introduce yourself and ask your technical questions. Chances are that you will find someone to show you how this stuff works.

    I found a deal on one and never said that . I said i could (could being the key word) put a different motor and tranny and rewire the thing for what you had me spending on just the clutch set up . I just did a 53 caddy for 500 And ill try to rebuild the water pump before spending that much for a new one somtimes you can just change the bearings and cork seals thats why i asked if anyone has done this already and knows the bearings needed to do it . Better to buy a 5 doller bearing the 100 doller pump . Alsow are you saying i couldnt change it because i have a hemi and tranny i could put right in . I alsow have a freind with a sbc in his not that hard to do .

    You've tried Dave Kostansek for pumps, then? If so, I didn't realize they were now up to $100! (Drat, should have bought that spare, ten years ago, LOL!)
  • dave k told me at the national that he was going to no longer rebuild fuel pumps as it was too time consuming and costly some times takes three cores to produce a good one. you cry babies will someday face nothing available, then you can buy a JAP ELECTRIC and hang it on. BILL A.

    Jeez, I must've been working on airplanes too long! I thought the parts cost for these cars was pretty reasonable, after having paid $75-$200 for a set of magneto points (approved aircraft part), that you can buy the exact same part at a tractor supply place (not approved) for $5. Many aircraft of the 40's-50's used auto parts from the same vintage, except it's not legal to use auto parts in a certificated aircraft now - you gotta buy approved parts. Which are the same damned parts with a paper pedigree. Anyway, try finding an aircraft part - any part - for under a hundred bucks. Can't be done. If aircraft used water pumps (most don't because the engines are mostly air cooled) they would probably cost $1,000. A factory rebuilt Lycoming O-320 (the gold standard of light aircraft engines) costs over $30,000, without accessories.

    When you shell out $100 for a Hudson fuel pump bear in mind:

    1. They haven't been made for nearly 70 years;

    2, The company folded in the mid-50's;

    3. Most stashes of parts were lost long ago;

    4. Not many folks are in the business because there's not much profit in storing a bunch of old parts, or rebuilding them for that matter, for a car that was made in such limited numbers.

    It's a wonder anyone wants to supply us with parts - I'm thankful you guys are out there!
