Valve stems

Hi, I am getting ready to replace tires on my 53 Super Wasp. Are the valve stems a different diameter on the older cars? Can I just go to Auto Zone and pick up some or do I need to get a smaller (not shorter) one. The old ones looks smaller. Thanks, Dave

  • There are generally two sizes of tubeless valve stems available. The smaller of the two will work just fine. While you have the tires off, inspect your wheels really carefully to make sure that the rivets aren't loose or damaged. Damaged rivets don't cause any problems with tubes but will leak air otherwise. Loose rivets need to be repaired properly but you may not notice if you were running tubes before.
