2009 National Info

I just called the hotel and they are down to 10 rooms. The planning of this is weekend is not good it seems that something major is going on that week in Detriot. Might have to pass on this national. $80 a night to $198.00 in a Detriot ecomony is a major rip off.0

Thought this needed to be bumped up.0

Subject: 2009 NATIONAL MEET FYI
Hi everyone; Just a quick note to let you know if you haven't made your reservations for next years national meet, be prepared!
Yesterday I called the host hotel and they informed me that ALL the blocked $80.00 a night rooms were gone and the current rate is $198.00 per night.
I was wandering how many of these $80.00 rooms they blocked?
I've emailed Ken to find some more reasonable rooms in the area, but haven't heard back yet.
At this rate, it will limit the number of members who can afford to attend.

The second from Sue Kennedy:
There are three hotels. The first one is booked, but I think you can get reservations at the other two:
Marriott Hotel 248-253-9800 Host hotel - booked)
Marriott Residence Inn 248-858-8664
Marriott Courtyard 248-858-9595
Sue Figert Kennedy
UPDATE: I just got another email from Carl Weber - as follows:
"I heard from Jack Miller, thru another club member, that there's 400 rooms blocked and you should be able to call the host hotel and they will get you club rate rooms in one of the other hotels listed above as they are all owned by the same corporation.
Good luck.

Good news from Carl & Alex. Thanks0

I just made reservations at the Courtyard at $79 plus tax for the 15th thru the 18th. Plan to drive the 49 Commadore.0
-
I was just reading thru the California Inland Chapter Spoke'N Points news letter and Frank Fry Senior Western Director says that there are 175 room reservations at the host hotel already. Ron0

I Just Called The Residence Inn And The Court Yard, Was Informed That They Are All Booked Up On The $79.00 Rooms, But Have Some At $149.00, Bummer0

As of 11:00 AM October 16, here is where we stand:
Host hotel: all rooms taken.
Courtyard: all rooms at H-E-T Rate are taken.
Wednesday: $149.95 (I'm guessing it's the same for earlier days)
Thursday: $89.95
Friday: $89.95
Residence: all rooms at H-E-T Rate are taken.
Wednesday: $149.95 (I'm guessing it's the same for earlier days)
Thursday: $99.95
Friday: $99.95
So when you average out the days it's not quite so bad.
However, it's a no-go with me. I'll be making reservations at the No-Tell Motel (just across the tracks; rooms by the hour) for myself and my ten roommates, in order to keep costs down...0 -
Maybe we could set up a "refugee" tent in the parking lot - with cots on a first come - first served basis.
Now all we got to find is the registration form for the meet itself.

All the Hornet drivers could turn their cars into temporary motel rooms according to Hudsons advertising. Owners could get $25 a night and help pay for their fuel costs. It's a win/ win situation. I could set up a soup kitchen in my camper and pay for the whole trip.

Would that me $25 a night for the car - or for each seat. 55-57 owners should be able to get at least $50 for use of their cars!!!!

I'm thinkiing I can set up bunk beds and buy another Hudson with the profits.

Bottom Line ???????? Is this going to be a bigger HET National then anyone thought ??? Or did someone drop the ball & what are the options for the ones that are still looking for a room ??? I am sure a plane B can be put into place because time is on our side. Rooms buy the hour like Jon B. talks about is an option and maybe with Candy on your pillow ?.

This Just Came To Light Today, And It Will Be The Biggest Meet. "the Power To Be" Will Get It Straightened Out.0

Just Made Reservations At The Marriott Court Yard At The Club Special Rate. Dont Know How Many Rooms Are Available.0
-
Excellent! Thanks for that timely bit of wisdom!
I've cancelled my room at the No-Tell, and made a reservation at the Courtyard. I'm not sure why the rooms were unavailable yesterday, and available today, but I shan't ask....0 -
Jon B - from what I've been reading on these posts I think what we have here is a failure to communicate, as he man said. Some reservation clerks that havn't been briefed on the "Hudson, Sex and Airplane" club!!!
I ran into the same thing in Marlborough when I went to confirm my reservation a couple week before the National. Res clerk cheerily informed me that indeed I did have a reservation - at $159 a night!!!! Got that ironed out in a hurry, beleive me.
So goes life in corporate America these days - mindless robots slaving away like the 3 monkeys - see nothing, hear nothing, know nothing (to paraphrase the "See no evil, etc"

When I made mine they emailed me the reservation information with a comp. # and will have it in hand when I get there. Ron0 -
ditto - made it by phone, got an e-mail confirmation with # which I've printed out & will have it with me.0

Ok, I contacted my "spies" and got the following email back:
"There are 500 rooms available in the two hotels that are on site. At the last meeting something was mentioned about people willing to stay 6 nights will have another opportunity to book rooms at the Mariott. There are other hotels within a reasonable driving distance if there is overflow. The Silverdome that has hosted a Superbowl is only 3 to 4 miles from the National so you know that there are plenty of hotel rooms in the area.
At the last chapter meeting Kay Amman our president said that at this point it does seem that this is going to be a large INTERnational meet."
So, if you can't find room in the stable, start checking the area with Google searches.
My source went on to say: "I have not heard anything about a web site or who may be in charge of building one at any of the chapter meetings."
I would agree with anyone who says each National meet chapter should have a web site up and running at least by September with alternate accomodations listed there-in.
So it looks like there's plenty of other places to stay - you just have to go find them.

wonder how many rooms are filled up now? I know we're going to hear someone complain that they don't have internet and it's not fair that they didn't know when they could book their room. Even without internet though I simply assumed they'd start booking one year before the event and I should act accoringly. I also assume this thing is going to be huge too, so BE THERE, even if you have to pitch a tent or sleep in the car! Hash owners are in good shape if it comes to that!. LOL0
-
Anybody that doesn't book within the month of August has no complaint. The excuse "I wasn't sure I could make it!!" doesn't hold water. You can always call and cancel your reservation a few days before the even without penalty - of find a friend with a comptuer and have him post a "room available" note.
I am never sure if I can make a National, but, like this one, I book mine as soon as it is "legal". For 2009 I booked the 2nd of August.
Now all I got to do is get the money together!!!

As of tonight (Oct. 21) I'm assured there are still rooms available at the two hotels near the host hotel.
Residence Inn
$89/night plus tax
Reservations: 248-858-8664
Marriott Courtyard
$79/night plus tax
Reservations: 248-858-9595
You MIGHT still get an $89 room at the host hotel if you reserve for 8 (eight) nights...instead of 5 or 6. 248-253-98000 -
Update, as of October 28:
A friend tried to make reservations and was told they were full up now, UNLESS you book for five (or was it six?) nights.
NOT TRUE. There are occasional reservations people who are not getting this right!
There are still $79 a night rooms available at one of the three Marriott hotels that are clumped around the host hotel. If you are told otherwise, please e-mail me at HETdetailed@verizon.net (delete the HET before sending) and I can give you the name of a "higher up" at the hotel who will make sure you're taken care of!0 -
If anyone has experienced problems in booking rooms at the "Club rate" at the Marriott, I have some information for you.
When Dick Cashion of New Jersey tried to make a four-night reservation 10 days ago, he was advised that all rooms blocked in the host hotel (Marriott Centerpoint) were fully booked and that no rooms were available at the HET rate at the Residence Inn or at the Courtyard locations, unless a six- or eight-night stay were booked. For a shorter stay, the rates would be much higher. After discussing this with Ken Poynter, who was very helpful, Dick was able to book a shorter stay at the Courtyard at the $79 rate. Apparently, there was/is a communications problem within the Marriott organization as to room availability and rates. As of this Monday, rooms are still available at the Courtyard and the Residence Inn at the HET negotiated rates ($79 and $89 per night).
If you have a problem, Dick suggests that you call Sylvia at Marriott Centerpoint, at 248-648-6016 for help. Sylvia said that she would be available to help anyone with a reservation problem. Ken Poynter should be contacted only if you have questions on other 2009 meet issues.0 -
Does anyone from the Detroit area know what the condition I-75 is supposed to be during the meet. I was through that way on Wednesday and I-75 was still closed at exit 47 and there was construction from exit 20 North. I was just curious whether this would be completed by next July or we would still have to use detours to get to Pontiac.0

Anything new ?0

FYI
I found the Marriott has no rooms available now at any Rate, however the CourtYard Marriott and Residence next door has rooms available but not at the Club Rate.
We booked anyway because of being a 'Swap Meet hound' and dont want to miss anything at the anticipated large National while traveling a distance back & forth....0 -
Walt N. announced that the Centennial shirts and caps are now available in the Club Store. He has a nice selection. Get your order in while the selection is good.
Also, we are running a test on on-line membership renewals on the Club Store page. Give it a try to help us identify any bugs.

Glad to see progress being made with on-line renewals. It works very well for me - I pay all my bills on-line.
For safety's sake always print out a copy of your paper work and file it just like you would if you were using "paper" payments. Despite earlier predictions, ain't no way we'll ever reach a "paperless" society. It's way to easy for your computer to crash taking your records with it.
