Hi All,

I am looking for PPG or Dupont paint codes for my '53 Hornet. The lower portion of the body is black and the roof and visor are off white. I plan to shoot it in acrylic enamel if that makes any difference.

Thanks,

Rich

Never mind on the paint codes. I found the PPG codes on the web at the link listed below.

    Thanks,

  • I have never seen the site listed above....pretty cool. But this one is more comprehensive. Go here to look at the chips and the two tone combinations as well as the codes.

There was no "white" offered that year, but there is a "honey cream." It does not make a difference if it is Acylic Enamel or not, but you might have a problem when you go to your paint store with the PPG number listed on the chips. Not all old formulas have been carried over because not all the pigments that were available then are available now. Some have been crossed over to a modern color that is really close if not dead on correct. For instance, 49 Comm Roman Red is the same as a modern Mazda's Milano Red. You wont know if it crosses over until you get to the store or call. If they dont have the formula, bring a part of the car like the visor with the orginal color on it and have them used the computer analyzer on it and they can produce it that way. OR, you can just order it from autocolor (the site above). They have all the original formulas and reproduce them using modern pigments. You can get Acrylic Enamel, Single Stage Urethane or BC/CC. If you dont mind my asking, why are you using Enamel?
