My wife and I just bought a 1947 Hudson Super Six two weeks ago. If you have any picture of any you would like to share that would be great. I'm not sure yet if we should restore it or do what we want to it. Your thought are welcomed. Car is just about complete. Only missing a couple parts.

Thanks Brian

BTW: My wifes mom thinks this may be her dads old car. It came from a small town in PA. We never told her what town it was from and she told us what the town was her dads car was last in. We are now trying to track the owners before us down to see if we can trace it back to her dad.

Our car:

You may wish to join the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club. See their homepage at http://www.hudsonclub.org/ There may be an active local chapter near you, and you might want to join that as well. It's a great way to "network" with other Hudson owners, and the Club is a great clearinghouse for technical information and parts. (Most people who use this forum are Club members.)

Best of luck on your new project!
  • Thats cool. If I had one I know what I would do!!!!:D

I don't have a '47 Hudson Super Six but I do have a '47 Hudson Commodore 8. You can see in this photo album the journey I've been taking in the restoration of it. http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/ads1947c8restoration.msnw

Then decide if it's really something you want to start. hahaha I hope you'll consider joing the HET Club too you'll get a ton of help both on this forum and in the club. Certainly undertake it as a labor of love especially with the significance of the car to your family.
  • Thanks for the info. Great site to!

Congrats on your purchase. Very little rust and no body damage to speak of and looks like everything is there. The hood eyebrows look like they are in the back seat, but they are very available if you don't have them. Headlights are available at your local parts store #6006.

Does the engine turn? Maybe change the oil and it would run. I'd get it cleaned up and running, even if you have to take the engine apart. Some body from your area will have had experience and will help you, but these are essentially 6 cylinder lawnmower motors on steroids.

Paint the front bumper with spray chrome for now, go thru the brakes and get it on the road and take it to local shows. People will love it as is.

Have fun, and fix it up as you go. I have a pickup like it in process.

Envy is right! I want that white sedan man!!!! Who did all the work Dave himself? I hope my finished '47 C8 Sedan finishes up just as pretty. I noticed he didn't put on the rear fender guards and it looks like behind some of the grill bars was chromed.
  • Thank you for the pictures and the links. It's great to get some ideas.

  • Here's a few pics I've gathered of

42-'47 Hudsons. If you haven't learned yet these are the years (just before the war and afterwards) that shared the same bodies.

Here we have the twin to the above Hudson, the one above is a Commodore Four Door, the one below is a super Six Two Door Brougham.
