There is an excellent article on one of our Club treasures, Al Saffrahn, in the October, 2008 edition of Hemmings Classic Car. One of his cars is also featured in the Hemmings 2008 Calendar. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy..:o

    Congratulations ~ I've heard a lot of things about Mr. Saffrahn on the forum, all GOOD!

    I hope to get the chance to meet the man in person some day soon.

    I/ve been thinking about a road trip "one of these days" to the southwest- visit with Bill Albright, Al Saffrahn, and Ray in Las Vegas, who bought my Hornet coupe a few years ago and is doing a ground-up "resto-rod" on it. Now if diesel price will just drop enough so me and the Cummins with camper can do it without taking out a second mortgage!

    I hear ya - @ 5.00 x 34 gallons == $170.00 a fillup on the Crew Cab dually (450 miles per tank) :mad:

    Diesel is down to 4.69, when it gets to 3.40 then I can fillup for $100.00 :(

    I would put a trip to Al's off until the cooler weather. Maricopa, AZ gets up into the 120's this time of year and Al works very early AM's and then hibernates near the AC for the rest of the day!! It is definitely worth the trip, however. I have driven out there a couple of times, Al rebuilt the trans for my '36T, very pleased with the results. Plus he has lots of parts and cars.

    I picked up my truck from Al's yard. Very impressed with his operation and how much he has helped me in my restoration. Great guy!

    Slightly off topic on this thread I know but a rough equivalent price of diesel over here in the UK is around $9.15 a (US) gallon so a way to go yet to catch us up!

    Petrol at the moment is running around $7.75 upwards of $8 a US gallon.

    I highly recomend Al for all your transmission and overdrive needs. He also has lots of sheet metal from a vast array of parts cars.

    I took a 40 overdrive tranny to Al a few years ago and he rebuilt it and installed it in my car, along with a new 10-inch clutch. Beautiful work (the result looked brand new) which has stood the test of time...he's the best. :cool:
