Hydramatic trans. problems

I'm having problems with my hydramatic transmission on my 53 mHudson Jet. The rings are a little out causing hard shifting, and the engine to overheat. Any help on how to adjust the rings without the required hydramatic trans. tool, would be greatly appreciated.

  • Do you have a hydramatic shop manual? The first thing that you need to do is to adjust throttle pressure on the trans. Then adjust the bands. For the front band loosen lock nut and turn in adjusting screw till tight, then back out 4 turns-tighten locknut. For the rear band with the pan off remove and clean filter, next on the rear band servo assembly there is a an apply rod which is part of the apply piston, it must protrude from the servo body 1/2 inch. To adjust loosen locknut , up top of trans accessed thru plate in floor, clockwise on adjuster bolt tightens- makes smaller protrusion. I will try to find throttle pressure set up info. • Thanks, Yes I do have the Transmission manual, and I have found some info on how to adjust the rings on an Olds, transmission. The two are very much the same. Based on what you have given me I'm hoping i can get this done.
