Have you tried, Y n Z in Redlands, CA? I understand that they are quite good and I believe that Bill A. gets wiring harnesses from them.

I got mine from Rhode Island Wiring. I believe, this has been some time ago, that Narragansett is a split off of Rhode Island. Guys that worked at RI or family members. They have been around a while as well.

Yes, but ne'er the twain shall meet!

I'm installing the RI dash and engine harness now. Looks good, no fitting problems. Did make some minor changes to allow use of steady state power supply to gauges, and added a bit of extra wire on fuel and temp senders to make it easier to pull the instrument panel, should need ever arise. RI harness was set up for alternator. Installed their headlight and cross- over earlier. Nicely made, all.

BTW, with tip from Hudzilla have found a material referred to as a gel in the stage lighting trade. It is s a plastic film used over lamps for colored lighting of stages. They use a clear tape to join, which is also rated for high temps. Said many stage lights run 750 Watts. Got a 12 V no. 57 lbulb burning with it now. Will post after have used for 24 hours.... that would be a lot of time for an amp or oil light. Also found source for red bulbs if painting not desired.

Good price if it works, approx. two square feet for about $ 7.50. Would do a lot of gauge panels!

Hmmm. I may be down to 6V at my age, but running 12 volts in car. Petronix and all. :) Walt-LA

I placed this wiring harness source on the forum to provide an alternative to the Y&Z and RI sources. If you look at the catalog the prices are quite a bit less than those of the other two sources. The pictures I got of the harnesses show what appears to be good quality albeit no specific personal experience with any of the sources.
  • I called them about a 52 Hornet harness. They still haven't done the rear wire harness and would need the original. Without the rear is approx $600.00.

As for the red gel for the satge lights there are a number fo different types. Some are much more heat resistant and/or fade resistant than others. Having been in the business for 30+ years I can tell you which manufacturer produces a better product. there are also many reds and saturations. So there you go. As for the wiring harness I use Y&Z. They have made harnesess for my 53, 46 truck, and I picked up an electric hand harness for the 37. They now have a pattern for a 46/47 turn signal relay that I took over and had made. You provide the relay or they have solid state relays and away you go.

    Jay,

Are you familiar with the Lee line? I would like to use Lee 27, which is medium red and attach with Jlar tape. It has held up well with the small bulb so far. Walt-LA

I understood what you meant with the original post. Please keeping sending the information and thanks for the very informative web site.

I once used a RI wiring harness in a '42 C8 conv. & the wires were numbered at the engine side of the firewall BUT NOT under the dash - what a pain, had to run continuity tests for all of them.

On the otherhand, I've bought several wiring harnesses from YnZ & always been more than satisfied.

    .

That's a plus for YNZ if numbers are on wires per se. RI harness I just installed had no numbers on wires, but came with a good diagram of wiring by location (main circuit breaker, Light switch & breaker, ignition, etc) showing type of fitting and the wire color/gauge markings. Had no trouble following it, but then did attach my own numbers and locators for under dash part. Some difference in price between the two companies, if that a consideration, RI being less expensive.
