That'd have bought a real nice one 10 years ago.
On another note, I came across pictures of a 51 Convertible in Texas and a 52 Convertible in Ohio that were for sale in the late 80's. I'm having them put on disk so I can post the pix here. Maybe somebody will know what became of them. Hope to have it tomorrow or Wednesday.0 -
It might have bought a relatively presentable one 10 years ago but certainly not a nice one0

I knew of a 49 that was sold to a fellow in Australia 3 years back but have not heard of the 51 you're thinking of in TX0

It is possible that the 52 For Sale in Ohio in the 80s is the car that Dave Sollen bought and restored. That car was originally owned by Spencer Blake and sold to an OHIO HETer who passed on before being able to restore the car. A fire had disabled that car when it resided in NM. A 51 Hornet convertible was for sale in Whitesboro Texas in the 80s. The car was stored in the open and clearly visible from Hiway 82. The asking price was $500.00 in 1983. That convertible was collocated with a Yellow 1947 Hudson Super 6 Convertible. The 1947 was a running original car whose engine was removed and replaced with a 308 Hornet equipped with Hydra-matic and Twin H. The 47 was owned by a Gainesville Texas Medical Doctor. After the engine transplant the car disappeared. The 51 was sold to a Dallas area HET member who installed a Chevy V8. Originally Coronation Cream the 51 convertible was recoated with a blue paint by the conversion owner.0
