starter crank for a '35 6 cyl.

hello, does any one have a picture they could post of the starter crank used on the '35's? i MAY have one with the mid-length universal joint welded solid. i think i may be able to grind and then weld in a craftsman tool universal joint to substitute..if this is the proper starter crank. thanks. tom

    Are you speaking of the accessory starting crank? Didn't realize they had universal joints...

    Most of the time, the long part of the crank is still clipped into it's spot in the top of the trunk. I have shown a number of people that the crank for their car is right there in the trunk and they haven't realized it. I would post a picture, but my camera is being repaired. If someone else doesn't, I will do so in a couple of days when my camera is returned.

    Assuming you meant the hand-crank to start the car, I would advise you to contact someone with a crank, and to get the dimensions on it. Then take these along on your next trip to a mixed-make antique car flea market. Especially look at a Ford vendor's, because this is where I found one for my 1937. It looked very similar to a Ford but my measurements helped identify it as a Hudson one, and I paid very little for it (the Ford vendor didn't know what it fit, except that it didn't fit a Ford!).



    As for the long extension, Richard is correct, you will find those even in the most rusted-away Hudsons, lurking in the 4-door sedans, clipped into place up near where the hinges to the trunk are. There's a decent chance that later model extensions may fit the '35 as well, as they may all have been designed similarly.

    i will check the trunk on my slant back sedan. my car does have some sort of a rack/clip in the lower part of the truck, aft of the spare tire. my car is a slant back if that makes a difference. so as i understand it the starter crank was a two piece with a longer extension for starting and the shorter piece for the jack? is that correct? thanks again. regards, tom ok, i checked my truck.i only have sping clips on the bottom, aft of the spare. this car does not look like it was altered. i think i have the correct mechanical screw jack..i am not sure where that fits

    The long piece for the crank, which is a straight steel rod with a fitting to go into the front pulley on one end and the other end fits into the hand crank, which may also be the lug wrench, I am not sure. It resides in two clips up at the very top of the trunk, up by the hinges and just below the package shelf under the read window. The slant back is the same. I will post a picture.

    NO, no clips on the floor.

    hmmm, makes me wonder if the '35 slantback is different from the later cars. my car does not have the two brackets to which the spring clips in your picture attach. there is no hat shelf in the '35 slantback. regards, tom
