Dashboard Removal

Hello Fellow Hudsonites,

I would like to know if it is possible to remove the dashboard facing from a 1952 Hornet. The one that is in the car is very rusted and I am hoping to switch out interiors with a 1953 Super Wasp with a very nice original interior.

Sure, just lay on your back on the floor with your feet over the front seat so you can get your head behind the dash, with a good light and a selection of small 1/4 inch drive sockets and git er done.

If you have the radio out, remove the speaker and it will allow good access too. Use a nut driver on most of them and removal of the glove-box can save some heartache.................putting the nuts back on is a bit of a booger but I've found it best to leave the end ones off, they really aren't critical to dash integrity and it's not worth the fight in my opinion.

here's what I did: remove glove box door and glove box itself. remove radio and speaker to give you better access to the bolts. remove instrument cluster and as you remove wires from the instruments, mark them so it is easier to replace when the new one goes in. with all that removed it is easier to get to the dash bolts and take the dash out. but remember to identify everything so that when you put the new dash in it will be plug in and go.

Or you can do it the easy way and hire a (very small) midget to do the job for you!!!
