A Hudson in the parade

:)Our local car club was invited to participate in a partade at an anual event, called Dayton Valley Days which was held today. I had the only Hudson out of 90 cars. As we worked our way along the parade route, mnay people said look at the Hudson Hornet, {mine is a '49 Super "6"}. Some children said hi Doc refering to Doc Hudsonin Cars. Any way the Hudson got plenty of attention even though there were several much nicer cars in the parade. There was a young girl around 8 or so that was looking at the cars and asked her mother "where do they make all these old cars?" her mother replied that some people hang on to memories. All in all it was a fun day and the Hudson was getting warm but did not overheat as some cars did in the stop and go movement. Keep our Hudsons out there where they can be seen, have a great day. Sounds like you had fun. Always great getting them out there for all to see. I was in a parade on the Forth of July and had lots of comments too (46 pickup). Have fun!
  • A couple weekends ago my wife and I took the '53 over to a local A&W for a Saturday get-together of some local car nuts, and a bit of a car show. Nothing big -- maybe thirty-forty cars or so, all makes and types, pickups, rods, you name it.

There were some really cool cars there, and plenty of onlookers who didn't own a show car, but appreciated the cars all the same.

The Hudson gathered its share of gawkers as usual, and generated many a comment and "thumbs up" from pretty much everyone who stopped to look at it in a bit more detail, but there were two particular individuals who stopped and chatted, that really made the day for me. They were two younger Guys, maybe thirtyish, who made a beeline for the car the instant they spotted it, and asked questions for 15 - 20 minutes straight about everything they could think of about this car, and Hudsons in general. You could tell they were blown away by how ( in their words ) "cool" a car made in the fifties could be, and particularly the Hudson Hornet. I doubt to that point they weren't really aware of Hudsons as a collector car at all, but I'll bet they'll never look at fifties cars again without thinking of that cool Hudson they saw at the dub that day !! For them, time stopped for a short spell while they were looking over this car, and we all slipped back to 1953 for a few magical minutes.

Those of us who've taken a Hudson to a show well know how many comments one gets about his particular car, and all are appreciated of course, but what I really liked about gabbing with these two Guys was that they were part of the younger age group, but not really interested in how they could "rod" such a car, but far, far more fascinated with how the car was still original, and how Hudson made it back in the day!

We,ve all noticed how much grey is appearing at the nationals these days, and its so refreshing to see a couple young fellas like this who just appreciate a Hudson "as it was", and maybe even will become Hudson owners, and HET members someday.

    Made my day anyway.
