54 Wasp overdrive

They were all cable operated, in the sense that there was a knob under the dash with either enabled, or locked out, the overdrive. This knob was hooked to a cable that pulled or pushed a lever on the side of the overdrive. There were plenty of electrical switches, solenoids and governors, but the cable control determined whether the entire unit was in regular (3-speed) mode, or in overdrive mode.0

Thats good to know. Where was the switch most likely mounted?0

The switch is mounted on the overdrive unit itself, and is activated when the knob is pushed in. This closes a circuit from the relay to the govenor switch, through the kickdown switch, which applies ground to the relay when the govenor points close. This then activates the solenoid, which will locate a peg into the slot inside the overdrive as soon as the driver lifts his foot off the accelerator. All quite simple and straightforward really!0
