1949 Production Numbers?

Does anyone have the official production numbers for 1949? In particular, I am looking to find out exactly how many 1949 Commodore Conv 8 Broughams were built. According the Standard Catalog of American Cars, there were 596 built. I have heard another number tossed around that is less than that. I would also be curious to know how many are know to exist (I gave up trying to count them in the directory).

Anyone???

You can get a breakdown by model but not by Body style I think. Convertibles were a fraction of the production, basically hand built from coupe bodies off the line. In 1949 Hudson made 144,685 cars in total. My data from the 2005-2007 Roster shows 443 cars registered with the HET club and of those 15 are Commodore 8 convertibles. 28,687 Commodore 8's were built in 1949 according to Butler.

I have the following production numbers for 1949 in my General Information Handbook:

In 1949 159,100 cars were produced - this can be broken down as follows:

    Super 6 - 91,333

    Commodore 6 - 32,715

    Super 8 - 6,365

    Commodore 8 - 28,687

Figures for indivudual body style break down may exist - somewhere. But after 30 years of digging all I have for those is one big hole.

It is interesting to note that only 144,685 units were shipped from the factory. That figure is from the Hudson Shipment listing that's been around forever. So, what happened to the other 14,415 cars??? They might be included in either 1948 or 1950 figures - it depends on which system, model year (October to September or calendar year (January to December, Hudson used in counting shipments. Using Calendar Year could include cars from previous and/or next year production. That wouldn't mean a 1949 car included in the shipment listing for 1950 would have been sold as a 1950 car - just that it was included in the previous or future year shipping figures.
