Paul, I think the consensus is that everything on the basic engine is silver. Black items are the starter, generator, air cleaner, oil breather cap, distributor, plug wire loom, and lower flywheel cover (jump in here, gang, if I've missed anything). Exhaust manifold is definitely silver. A few old pictures are seen showing black oil pan, but I believe on production cars they were silver (Maybe replacement pans were black). I like Duplicolor's 500 degree engine paint in "Aluminum" color. Put it on in two or three light coats so the texture of the cast iron parts is maintained.0

Hi Paul---I will go along with Park except for the oil breather cap which is non-existant on a splasher eight. Incidentally in what state are you located. 38s are my favorite & the only year that I may be interested in restoring. I presume yours is a model 87? Please post a picture somewhere along the line. Does it have the picnic table & electric hand? How about an automatic clutch? Have you done the engine yet? I have a completely rebuilt eight sitting in my laundry room that I may be talked into selling if the price were right. Please keep us posted re. your progress in restoration.
