Does anyone have current part numbers for tie rod ends for a '47? It seems that the MOOG ES-104R and ES-104L are no longer in production.

    Try these numbers.

    NAPA: 2692240 and 262241

    Spicer: 4011096 and 4011097

    Moog: ES416L and ES416R

These are '48 to '54 Ford 1/2 and 3/4 ton Truck parts

    The application is:

    Hudson '36 - '37 8 cyl.

    Hudson '38 - '54 All
  • The Moog #s are for stepdowns and won't fit a 47. Haven't been able to check the NAPA or Spicer numbers yet but if they are also for the stepdown they won't fit either.

Well, this infomation came from my Interchange Manual. If anything these numbers will not fit stepdowns. The Interchange Manual is very clear on Ford truck tie rod ends fitting non-stepdown Hudsons. The stepdown interchange is not as clear. The left hand interchange is given as '49 - '51 passenger car Ford, Mercury and Lincoln. The '49 - '51 passenger car Ford listing references the Ford truck. The right hand interchange is given as '49 - '54 Chrysler and Desoto and '47 - '54 Kaiser. The '47 - '54 Kaiser listing references the Ford truck. Also, Louis Backus's Hudson Swaps Manual references the references the Ford truck. It's not surprising that the Ford truck tie rod ends fit Hudsons. The interchange listing for the Ford truck tie rod ends is huge. They are like a universal donator for old cars. However, the Interchange Manual does note that to use the Ford truck tie rod ends on some cars changes like grinding the face of the arm or the face of the castellated nut must be done. Maybe thats the problem with non-stepdown Hudsons.

    Hey Mars55,

Will the ES104 tie rods work for the 36 Terraplane?

I have a set of ES46 and the thread shaft is too small!

    Thanks,

    Jeff

The ES104 tie rods are no longer made and my Interchange Manual only goes back to 1938. My only suggestion is to try A1 Classic Car Parts Finder. They will for a small fee try to find a Interchange.
