I learned of this powerful '47 Hudson St Rod Project while Posting old NASCAR Race Car Pictures earlier this Yr. Eventually I asked the builder, Butch Smith to share his progress with a few pictures to hopefully incent others to build using 'Hornet Power'.

Butch has owned this Hudson since the 70's, maybe even earlier. The Hornet Powerplant will have a new Whipple Supercharger mounted to a 4bbl intake on a 'Stroker' Motor. The Torque will go into a GM Turbo OD Transmission exiting into a Ford 9" with Currie Axles. The Headers were 'custom built' to clear the body then Jet Hot Coated. Butch has all the Performance components to complete, however the Block is just being machined after a long delay at a 'previous Shop'.

The Chassis has 'many' Suspension & Brake Upgrades to handle the increased Power as you can see from the pictures....

More later...

  • All I have to say is, Beautiful!

  • Glad to see someone else likes Currie, and Jet-Hot products. They're expensive, but well worth it in the end. I hope to have our finished cars parked side by side someday. Excellent work, and love the color!
  • Where did he get that crank?

That's about four grand worth of crank. Stroked about a half inch? That's cool.:)

Detroit, hand milled, no CNC from what I hear. Not too many craftsman that can still do that.

    FYI

The digital Dash is Nordskog and required only little mod in back and a smoked front Panel.

The Crank is a Moldex 'Billet' .The Receipt 'Text' wont scan well but the price was $4000. It is nice to know Moldex will make a Crank for the Hornet.

Not to my knowledge. If you want one contact Butch Smith in Southern California (check your roster). I'm sure he would be willing to put you in contact with the people that made that one for him.

Contact Moldex Crankshaft Co @ 313 561 7676. (I do not see a Moldex Person's name on the Invoice). Moldex makes custom Forged & Billet Cranks.

  • I wonder how much that crank weighs?

I know a stock crank weighs about 89+/- lbs.

Sure looks goooooooood. Wish I could scratch up enough coin for one.

    FYI

The Billet Crank is lighter but I dont recall the difference. Attached are a couple more pictures of Butch Smith's Hudson Project.

Hey! He's got the side of his house decorated just like mine! I gotta' show the wife this, tell her "See, it's an eclectic artistic statement, with the engines as a focal point.";)

I bet we all have a photogenic area where we work on our Hudson's.

Regarding Crank weights, I knew there was a difference but the Billet is actually 3lbs heavier but well worth it.....
