I know Hudson has a timming chain issue so why did they not just build a gear drive for the cam?

Does anyone know of a company that does? Lots of other inline and some

v-8's use this setup? Seems like a simple fix?

I don't know that Hudson has a serious timing chain issue. It was not unusual for our customers to drive 80K to 100K on the original timing chain setup. Not sure that even todays "Wonder Cars" can achieve that kind of milage before attention is required.

One of the addendums to Murphy's Law is "Nothing is ever as easy as it seems". If one was to try and install gears instead of a chain, the spacing would have to be exaclty right for the mesh of the gears at a 1:2 ratio, or else an intermediate gear would be necessary. If directly meshed, the cam would have to be entirely new, as it woud rotate in the opposite direction. As Jerry states, for the average Hudson enthusiast, the timing chain is not an issue. Replacement roller chains are available if you want heavy duty specs.
