Moto meter

Do any of you know who repairs moto meters? I am putting one I have on my Dodge Bros pick up and the thermometer is shot, red all the way to the top, doesn't seem to have any mercury. I've tried writing Restoration Supply in NV but their e-mail is down. Any suggestions as to who is still working on these?

Your motometer might still be alright. I understand that they get this way from lying flat for a long period of time. You should be able to shake the alcohol or mercury back down. Hope it works. It's worth a try anyway.
  • I'll try it, that would be too simple but it sure is worth trying. Thank you,

Go to www.ahooga.com and post your question. I know the Model A folks have people that do that sort of thing.
  • Thanks Dave, that website name is so apropos for model A's.

Try this link for other suggestions on how to get your motometer working.

  • Thank you, I tried shaking it down but that didn't work and I looked kind of goofy shaking that big winged thermometer. I will try tapping it on a tire tomorrow. I ordered another thermometer from a company in Reno just in case. I need to order the threaded brass neck for the radiator and I've found a company that makes them for Model A's, I won't tell them it's for a Dodge.

  • Thanks to the forum and Essex30 my moto meter is getting closer to go, the website from the old tractor guy had the solution to the thermometer problem, tapping the meter on the tire gently brought the red down into the thermometer where it belonged.

Great! I'm glad it worked for you. A lot of the old motometers that have been lying on their sides in storage for years seem to develop this problem. I bought two last year on Ebay and both had that problem. I got one to work shaking it like a medical thermometer. I guess I'll try the tire tapping on the other one some time.

  • Arend, yes, it took a while and I was beginning to think I was wasting my time then I saw a break in the red so I kept tapping, at first it was just lines in the red then it all started moving down. It probably only took five minutes. If not you can get the thermometer and many other moto meter parts from Snyders Antique Autos

http://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/ , click on Model A and then scroll down to Motor Meter

I checked that site and as far as I can determine, the replacement thermometer offered only fits the "Quail" motometer used on Model A's and not on regular motometers.
