I'm thinking the front coil springs on my 51 Hornet Coupe are too soft. Anyone out there have experience in replacements or retempering? Niels

I am just a blank on the name, but the company in Kansas City,Mo. has exact replacements. I believe Eaton Detroit also has them. Any rust or rust pits on a spring will cause it to loose it's temper and rating, big or small.

  • Coil Spring Specialities in Kansas will build you a set-- 785-437-2025. Cost is in the $150.00 range. They did a set for my 54 Hornet Club Coupe , work good and correct height. They will want to know year model, and body style engine size. Thats all it takes. Lou Cote
  • Thanks Lou. I ordered a set- $148.40

Coil spring specialties can also load 200lbs more stiffness to one or both springs. They assume at least one person in a car at approx 200 lbs to keep if from being offset. I put them in my 54 sedan a several years back. Also if looking for stiffer springs, convertible springs were stiffer. They can be gotten from espo spring for around $90 a pair.

  • As an update, I received my coil springs from Coil Spring Specialties and had them installed today. They were a perfect match and fit. The car drives great.
