Speedometer gear exchange
I'm changing over to the Dana/Spicer 3.07 rear end that was used in the '52 and later cars equipped with dual range hydramatic transmissions Can the speedometer gear in a dual range transmission be used in a single range? I have an H-51 which is the later model single range with hydraulic shift to reverse. Present rear end is 3.58. Thanks! Walt-LA

I have both hydros apart at this time.an H51 and an H53, i will do a tooth count on the output shaft and the driven gear set. The driven gear and holder screw into the extension housing, no problem to change . I will get back to you after breakfast its now 10:46 pm here. I may have an extra driven gear assembly with the correct tooth count. Lou Cote0

The good news is that the output shafts have the same tooth count, EIGHT, the drive gear. On the driven gear, removable from the outside, the H51 has 21 teeth, the H53 has a 18 tooth gear. the bad news is that I can only find at this time a 22 tooth and a 15 tooth driven gear sets. Lou,
Many thanks! Just got the rear end yesterday, and so it needs to be gone through and cleaned up. Now that we know what to look for, should be easier to find! Again thanks, Walt-LA..0
