Parts for Sale/Trade Folder

One of the classic Mustang forums I am a member of has structured seperate folders on their forum site for parts wanted/ parts for sale/ parts for trade in seperate folders much like with the discussion/ hudson street rod folders we already have. I think this would be of benefit here as well. We could post needs and parts for sale directly. After cleaning out the garage and going the ebay route, I felt nickel and dimed by ebay/paypal. Many of the customers buying the parts wanted to bypass paypal as well. Just a thought. If you want to take a look at the site I am referring to it is below. You can view everything except the trade section without becoming a member of the site

Good Idea Rich. There are two Model A Ford forums that do the same thing. www.Ahooga.com and www.Ford.com

One of the reasons that we haven't done this, is that Classiccar (our web host) has its own Buy / Sell "classified" section here at the website, and obviously this is one of their sources of income. Starting our own all-Hudson classified ad section, would bypass that, in effect. Classiccar gives us this site and maintains it, free. It seems to me that we wouldn't be very grateful to our hosts, if we bypassed them in this way. People do mention things for sale, or "wanted", from time to time, here at the Hudson Forum.

The alternative to the present situation would be to pay for our own website, and perhaps someday the H-E-T Members would be willing to see a dues increase, toward that end. (The Club is pretty stretched financially, at present, so unless someone wants to kick in some money, we'd have to raise the dues.)

The alternative is to find some sort of "free" web service out there, but these are never really "free" --- they're usually loaded with advertising, or have some sort of downside.

Classiccars has been awfully good to us, without asking much if anything in return. So, while I agree with your basic idea, I don't see a way to implement it that won't tend to hurt our hosts.

Actually Jon,if you were going to pay for some advertising, I think this would be the best place to do it. There are alot of people on here and use this Forum for useful info . With that said, This is the place to come for more than just Hudson stuff. Access,Ads, and advise, what more could you ask for??.DW-c-d:)

    Jon,

I agree with you 100%. I would rather pay a small fee (either per item or unlimited postings per month) to this site than ebay. What is the current cost to place an ad here? I was thinking to have the ads in the hudson section where it would be more visible, but structure the ads more like the regular posts where you can ask questions. Obviously, we would want some rules with it, like posting a price rather than make offer. We have a great site and a great bunch of people. Seems like all could benefit. It might make more parts avaliable as well.

  • Rather than us believing "we should accept mediocrity because it's free", our web host would be best served by accomodating our needs. We generate alot of volume for him. I've seen his post and he seems to be a good business guy. Personally, I don't care if we get this site free or not. Most of us can afford a few bucks a year to have what we want, especially if we were to be the "official" HET forum. Shouldn't we have better expectations for "THE" club forum and "go to" spot?

I know there have been lots of good dicussions on this subject previously but IMHO the club directors should allocate the resources to make the club forum / website all conclusive - ie: forum, classified ads, events, etc. Doesn't sound too difficult to me... serve the membership!

I've been in contact with the HET pres and they are in fact looking into the this issue of site hosting (rather late I know) and I told him the history of classiccar.com and Hudson presence on the web (which has been at least 10 years now) but have not heard any more of what became of those talks whith the BOD members. No doubt there hands are very full with National planning as it is.
