I posted this over here where more Hudson oldies are owned. >>>>

    Thanks, Ron
  • I am looking for a carburetor that will work with my 1929 Essex Super Six. My Essex material says the original carb is a Marvel V-10-733, but I also found Marvel literature that states the carb should be a Marvel V-10-722.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

Ron, you are probably right - the correct number should be V-10-722. Your post sent me scurrying thru my reference material and two sources I have show the -722 carburetor.

I'm not infallible - errors in my General Info Handbook tend to sneak in now and again. Sometimes it's typing error's, sometimes it's the wrong choice. I have found over and over that with Hudson research anything is possible. There have been more than a few times when I've come up with data from several different sources, both Hudson and non-Hudson, that show different info on the same item. So what we finally did was if we could find two out of, say four, sources that agreed, we went that route. 3 out of 4 was almost gold.

I'm sure Geoff Clark will have an answer as to which is correct, and if so I'll have to make a correction in the Handbook.

Thanks for bringing this thread up - it's always appreciated to find info that may correct an error.

  • Alex,

Thank you for all of your hard work.

The 1929 Essex material that list the carburetor as a Marvel V-10-733 is the "1929 Essex - Mechanical Information Handbook"

I would greatly appreciate your assistance if you know of anyone who has a carburetor or distributor that will work with my 1929 Essex Super Six. I believe the correct carburetor would be a Marvel V-10-722.

    Thank you

This Ebay person has some Essex stuff now and then and have seen an Essex distributor. He has an Essex distributor cap right now. I would write him to see what he has. Good luck, Ron

I got Marvel parts from this guy for my 1929 Hudson. I would contact him just in case.

Unfortunately, Ron, that 1929 Essex Tech Handbook you mention may be wrong - I put that handbook together. So we are still stuck with which is the correct carburetor - a -722 or -733. I'll get in touch with Geoff Clarke one of these days - if anybody knows, he will.

Unless originality is very important to you, I'd use a Stewart 25 carburetor from a 1925-28 Essex. Much easier to find, doesn't give problems like the Marvel & simple to manage. I've run one on a 29 Essex engine for the last 20,000 miles with no problems.
  • I am definitely interested. Is there a great deal of difficulty or re-work with setting up a 29 SuperSix engine with your carburetor and how much do you want for it?

By chance will you be at the National meet in Pontiac, Michigan, USA?

    Thank you for your assistance.
