I use a sequence of pics as my screensaver. Every time he posts another pic of that luscious Terraplane in the snow, I add it to the fold. Soon, I'll have the complete set! Maybe I can sell it on eBay!

BTW, Slim, someone over on the tractor board started a "Colder than a . . ." thread- Someone had already used my favorite ("It was so cold today my lawyer had his hands in his OWN pockets")- so I posted yours (without properly attributing the source, naturally).
  • Cold? You guys don't know anything about cold.....its -35 here right now!

If we talk outside these days we have to wait till spring when the words thaw out to hear what we are saying.

Is that 35 degrees below zero with or without the wind chill? Either way, that's way too cold. I can't imagine what your heating bills must be.

I think anybody that lives north of the Mason-Dixie line is partially nuts, anyway. Wife left this morning for VA . . . glad I'm not going. That front came all the way down here in South Central Texas and it actually froze last night. A week or so ago, we had an inch of snow in the morning. Haven't seen snow on the ground here since '84, I think. Suits me fine. Unfortunately I spent 5 years living in VA and I'm still cold from it!

Just remember that the best powder snow in the world is here in Utah. By this time next month there will be more than 100 inches of it and starting out on the slopes in the morning usually includs below zero weather.... Life could not be better????

Sam, if it is any consolation, it is wet and cold this AM in sunny So CA. We are extremely delighted to finally get some real, actual rain. Now if it doesn't reduce this end of the state into a mud flow, we shall also be grateful

Having had 18 years in Ind., when a kid, of snow, slush, ice, sleet, freezing rain, snow tires & chains, I would certainly not be masochistic enough to EVER return to that again!

And then there were the wonderful summers with mosquitoes, hay fever, poison ivy, humidity, flies, on & on so I'm glad I bid adieu to that part of the country, thank you.

Oh well, to each his own -

Is you bragging - or complaning, Sam'l?? I'm just glad I'm not down Maine - They been without power for about 3, 4 days now. And that's merry hell when you got oil heat!!!! ;)

Don't got to worry here in Memphis - power goes out I got gas for heat and gas for cooking. While I'm not wild about gas, especially the gas stove because at my age I have a tendency to leave the burners on, but I'm gonna stay warm and well fed (as I clean out everything in the freezer).

Hey, now! At least we can make snowmen just about anywhere. For your information, we northerners are a hearty breed who have 4WD's and dog sleds to get throught the snow. :D As for everything else you mentioned, I know for a fact that Arizona has insects as I've seen them...along with rattlesnakes and other varmits.

Dave - LOL on "other varmits"! Most dangerous "varmits" around here are "human beans"!

I've never seen a live rattlesnake here yet, nor a Gila monster or tarantula. Now javelinas & coyotes, that's another story, lots of them!

As in most metropolitan areas, far safer in the desert than on the freeways!
  • There is something terrible wrong here. I am here in Socal and there is white cold stuff all over my green lawn. I think I'm going to have to dig out a coat so I can go to work tomorrow. I may not be able to wear shorts and that really pisses me off. It's bad enough it rained all day today on my day off but we aren't supposed to get snowed on in Socal.

I've seen rattlers when riding in the Rincon foothills and tarantulas lerking around the swimming pool. Given the choice between humans or wildlife lerking around the house, I'll take the later. While getting a cup of coffee the other morning, I was confronted with an eight point buck peeking in the kitchen window. Too bad their weren't any kids around, I could have told them it was a reindeer. :D

I'm with you, last Saturday morning I was at our cabin in the canyon and finished breakfast while watching three elk graze and rest out side the kitchen window. No freeway noise, no city lights, no rush, rush, rush... I expect that by this weekend there will be a foot of show and the only way to get to the cabin is on a snowmobile... I love it here---you can keep your sunshine and heat in the south west...
  • There's something about a good snow storm that makes the world appear clean and quiet. It forces people to slow down and enjoy the comforts of home and the wonders of nature.

You are so right, Dave. But in my area if people would slow down there wouldn't be as many upside-down SUV's (16 and counting this week). :D
  • 2 words>>>>>> Snow Birds. Who are these people ? I go to the desert now and then during the winter and Indio and Blythe Calif. are full of these out of state license plates from all over the north and east. Must be the beautiful ice and snow they love so much. :)

Sam, I'm sure you've heard the saying that a good storm brings out the best and worse in people. People who drive like fools seem to do so regardless of the weather. The problem with some SUV drivers is that they don't, or won't, realize that they are as impacted by ice as any other vehicle. Luckily, we're used to the ice and snow so no upside down SUV's here, yet. :D

We had some amazing footage on the news last Tuesday...a local reporter was filming a pileup on the I 25 freeway betwixt Albuquirky and Santa Fe. A Durango went over on its roof right on camera, and the Tahoe behind it almost creamed the reporter and the cameraman (the camera went flying), bounced off the news truck, and went on its side next to the Dodge. I'm expecting to see it on YouTube. :D
