At the eastern end of the Chino Airfield are 4 hangers whose access requires taxing across the city street. I used to have an office in one of those hangers in 1991. That was also the year my chief electrical design engineer quit. He left a note: I am no longer willing to pick the airborne bovine fecal material off my lunch! I quit! At the time there were 1000s of milk cows crowded together in feed lots. The air was thick with the airborne "material" I was one of the lucky fellas; my primary office was in Ontario. Miss the old aircraft at Chino, but not the Cows!0

I grew up on a dairy in So Cal and we also had dairy property out in Chino. Would often have lunch at Flo's at the Chino airport, one of the best hanburgers. I miss the smell of a dairy, always enjoy the smell when driving through Norco. I guess growing up on a dairy is one of the reasons why I love pick-ups.
Like you I miss the old aircraft, use to climb through the wreakage that was out front. Loved that they filmed some of the TV show Combat there.
Merry Christmas to all0 -
I don't know what Chino is like now but I was out there about 20 years ago, and it was like being on a WW2 airfield. There were warbirds everywhere! I took a lot of pictures. One of the artifacts (non-flying in its case) was a Ryan Fireball, which was a hybrid prop-driven/jet aircraft. Never expected to see one of those.0

Lance, I too grew up on a dairy farm. But my origins are in NY where the seasons require lots of adaptaion and the need to provide shelter and feed during the winters. Our farm had 150 head of milking cows and 40-50 young stock. When I was younger I can not remember a day that did not begin at 4:30 am and end late. The farm supported three families and all the male members and some of the women of these families worked on the farm. When I was 17, my Grandfather decided farming was too hard a life for the returns and sold the farm. The next year I joined the USAF and spent the next two decades + traveling around the world and the US. What a change, from the farm to places I had only dreampt about as a lad. I do not miss farming, but I do value the lessons I learned there.
Flo's was a once a week lunch destination from 1990 -1993. We took turns picking up the check which was never as much as one would expect for such good food.
Memories.... Merry Christmas to you and all others too.0 -

The smell of the dairy farms is only bothersome until you hit the stock yards in Thermal, CA in July. One night in Thermal and you would welcome Chino. It's sad to say but California is driving away all our farmers so that we can become a service orientated society. It won't be long before the people in the US won't be able to make anything but burgers. The dairys in Chino or the egg ranches here in Yucaipa, all being driven away by people living in cookie stamp houses and working 60 miles or more from where they live. The want to live in the "country" but they don't want to smell animals or have flies and heaven forbid a wild animal they have displaced decides it doesn't want to move. First they anthromorphise the animals then they try to make them into pets and then they want them killed because they won't fit the mold. Oops, got up on my soap box again. Bill, call me when you're going to Flo's and I'll try to drive the Hash over there for breakfast.
