Hello Duncan, merry Christmas to you and your Family. How is the problem coming along with the 1/4 window channeling on your '54 Hollywood. I talked to the fellow with the '52 Hollywood and he is going to use the originl channel and have some felt installed. I will let you know how that works for him. Sorry I am of no help with the TV rod.0

I am not an expert on this but I would think the Rods are identical... If any difference it could be compensated by a slight adjustment forward or rearward on the rod.0

walt's garage-53 wrote:The TV adjusting rods are the same. The difference is in the arm on the transmission that the rod hooks too. They are different in shape and each has a serial number that is used for different years. Give me the serial number on the right side of your transmission plate and I will tell you the arm number that it should have. Walt Mordenti.0

Take a piece of plywood and set it into the weatherstrip[channeling]simulating the window. Put a cut-off blade[metal blade]in the cut-off saw, adjust the depth as needed-about 3/16th's and cut the slots as needed into the new piece. I have done this a few times with great results. It allows it to flex into the body as needed and also allows it to be screwed back in place. I think this is the piece you are referring too??.
Duncan,Walt is correct, make sure you use the shop procedures manual to do this adjustment. If you don't,you can strip the T.V.arm and cause other problems that will need to be repaired, before it will shift properly.0 -
Thanks everybody for your help. the no. on the hydratrans is
H54 8007 The car sn. is D7286903 I didn't think it would be
such a hassel to put twin H on instead of a single 2 barrel . I found on this site the correct bell crank it was sent to me with a higher shipping charge .When i emailed Dave to ask
the price of bellcrankand shipping he said no charge. That was a awsome christmas present. Thanks Dave. duncan0 -

Duncan, yes you should be able to push the arm towards the rear of the car and it should have a spring to it. If it doesn't,you should get the HYD.trans. shop manual, remove the side cover and inspect the TV arm closely. You will probably find that it has been stripped on the splined shaft. After this is repaired/replaced,make sure that you follow the adjustment procedure in the shop manual. This is not that tough of a repair.0 -
I have not found a good way to attach the vertical quarter window seal. It originally had the metal cast into it. I have found that no matter what,it takes alot of pressure and will just come off. I have been restoring the metal strip[semi-black finish],and then screwing it down on top of the rubber. I know it is not original,BUT it looks and functions as it is supposed too.0

Hi Clutch guy . Are yhe splines on the inside of trans or on the outside where the tv arm clamps to. I have questions that i can't
ask on here. My mind ane fingers have problems on computer
send me your phone no or phone me at 780-3492747 collect if you want . Ray duncan0 -
Duncan, splines are on the inside, behind the side cover, very simular to the ones on the outside once the shaft is removed. It would have been great if the weak link was the arm but it always seems to hold strong!!0

Hi Duncan, Take a look at the picture and you will see what I had to do. The donor transmission came from a 53 super wasp and had the bell crank down by the starter. So I ended up welding a new arm onto the twin H cross bar and that allowed me to use the original setup from the transmission. You can see the arm I welded on has several holes for adjustment and I made the vertical rod extra long so I could get final adjustments and then I cut it off shorter.
I don't know if this will help or not.

I think my picture is too large for this site.0

ok, we'll try this.0

Whoa!! It worked!! Yaaaaay!0

Thanks Jim for the pictures. I found out that when i took the engine out or put it in i pulled on the tv rod lever and stripped
the splines.I will have to drain oil and take off tv lever and cover and remove control valve body to fix splines. Very fragile.
