47 Commodore Question

A Commodore owner I know has a 47 and he asked me what the hole in his truck is for. Its about 10 inches across and 10 inches deep and had a wire reinforced canvas bucket in it. Was this to hold tools? is it standard or previous owner mod.

Can't say I have heard of this before. I have seen Hudsons with a metal depression for tools but not a canvas bag.

Any info appreciated.

  • Hi.--- This hole is not in the trunk area of the floor, but is under the rear seat & serves to equalize air pressure by allowing air to escape while traveling with the windows up & the cowl vent open. As far as I know, this feature endured right through the step-down years. Hudsonly,---Cliff Minard.

Actually it was supposed to be a filter for air coming IN, as opening the vent wings would creat a slight vacuum in the car. Not sure why they thought air coming in from the pavement below would be good! At least they filtered it through that heavy cloth.
  • Thanks for the answer passed on the info.
