Question on adhesives.
Hey Hudnuts,
I need to replace the seal aroung the trunk on my 36T and was looking for some recommendations on glue. Whats best to use that wont trap moisture and wont give up the bond?
Also need to reglue down my running board rubber mat. What would be good for that?
Thanks as always,
T Jeff

Jeff, The best I have used is 3M weatherstrip adhesive. I haven't used it on running boards so cannot speak to that.

3-M does (or did) have specific seam sealers for auto bodies. There is more than one kind, and it comes in a chaulking tube. I bought mine at one of the Body Shop Supply stores, but I haven't purchased any for quite awhile - so I don't know if it is still avaiable.0

BTW, I had used some of the 3M "black" formula on the deck floor of a Hudson convertible that wound up in a long term storage situation, getting some periodic water laying on the deck floor. The seam sealer held up well.0 -
K-Gap, which sells both truck seals and running board replacement material, recommends Contact Cement. I used Weldwood contact cement which I purchased at Home Depot. In using contact cement, it is important to remember that one applies it to both surfaces and lets it dry, before sticking them together. It seems to work fine on my 36T. I replaced all rubber parts on the car from K-Gap, it costs a few bucks, but their products are easy to work with and are as close to the original as you can get.0

Thanks Richard.
Yes I have gotten several items including the new trunk seal from KGap and have been very happy with them. Contact cement it is!
Motor on!

I agree on the contact cement for the running board mats, but make sure you get the solvent-based type & not the non-flammable. The solvent-based type is weatherproof & the non-flammable is for installing indoor formica countertops & such.
Also I recommend the 3M weatherstrip adhesive for all weatherstripping installs. I would NOT use any type of seam sealer to adhere weatherstrip. Seam sealer is for caulking body seams and is not for adhering weatherstrip.
