Brand New 308 Engine In A Crate.... How much is it worth?
Howdy,
I may have a line on a brand new Hornet 308 engine still in the original crate. Don't know if it will be forsale. I may be able to buy it but it will cost me some good coin....I need to know what it is worth. Don't know anything more about it yet. Any idea of it's value? $3000- 5,000 ish? Niels

3-5K is the right ballpark. As we have seen on ebay 308's pulled out of cars are going for $2800 so a new 308 in a crate should be in the 3-5K range. I wonder how long it has sat if its sat since the 50's and you get it I would strip it down replace the seals and give it s good oiling. Nice to hear things like this still exist. Check the serial number on the block it may be a 7X replacement which would be rare.0

Assume it is a 55-56. These are always tough to figure siince they been sitting for 50 years. If the plugs are out or the carburater was not covered, rust can seep in and get some stuck valves. I personally would not go over $1200.000
