Cigar lighter/chrome removal help please
I'm in the middle of pulling the dash wiring on my 49 and I am fighting with the cigarette lighter removal. I have all the knobs out and the right side chrome strip. I have the screw out that is next to the lighter holding the center section of chrome in. I cant see any other fasteners holding the strip or lighter in but it wont budge. The outer chrome circle surrounding the lighter looks like it's part of the chrome and not the lighter so I dont think that un-screws. I pryed a bit on it but I dont want to bend the dash. I need it out to repair and re-wire it... Anyone know how the lighter and center dash chrome piece comes out?
P.s I do have a drive master car so there are 3 pieces of center chrome if that makes a difference.
Uggg.

IT DOES UNSCREW INNER AND OUTTER
THE OUTTER IS BEHIND THE DASH YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE CENTER FROM THE FRONT AND UNSCREW THE OUTTER FROM THE BACK0 -
Actually, I don't have a lighter in my '37 but here's how a lot of the early ones are held in:
The lighter receptacle is maybe 2-1/2" deep. The chrome ring that you see in front is affixed to the lighter receptacle. To install, the receptacle is inserted through the hole inthe dashboard and pushed back until the chrome ring prevents it from going any further back.
A sort of cylindrical enclosure is then inserted from behind and it fits over the receptacle, and is pushed right up to the back of the dashboard metal. A nut at the very back of the enclosure tightens it to the back of the lighter receptacle and forces the enclosure against the back of the dashboard -- which acts to pull the front trim tightly against the dash and thus hold the receptacle in place.
Reach under the dash and behind the lighter and you'll find this nut. Unscrew it and you'll feel the lighter start to loosen in the dash. When you remove the nut, the enclosure (around the lighter) will pull off and the lighter can be pushed out the front of the dash.
Of course, you'll want to FIRST remove the wire from the lighter terminal in back, else you might get a surprise when fiddling around, back there!0 -
