Need parts for 1947 Hudson Super Six 4 Door Sedan

Hi,

I am the owner of a 1947 Hudson Super Six (four door Sedan) near Stuttgart, Germany. my car has undergone a frame-off restauration since 1995, and is nearly complete.

There are however a few parts that are missing, and I am having difficulties locating these. Among them are:

- Window channels for all doors

- Hinges for the glove box

- Chrome strips for the right rear fender/passenger side (three strips, one long, two short ones); and the left rear fender/drivers side (two short strips - I have the long one on that side).

- one chrome strip in the front, below the grill. This is a chrome strip that actually consists of two identical pieces (left and right), of which I have one strip, and need the other "half".

- the chrome headlight bezels of a 1948 Hudson, which wrap over the top of the fender and include built in signal lights. The german TUV requires that I have blinkers on this car, and the '47 didn't have blinkers yet. I believe the '48 bezels will fit my car.

- Interested but not required: the radio for a '47. In working or not working order. However, this is on the bottom of my priority list.

I would be very greatful to hear back from anyone with parts or tips. As you can guess, it is even harder to find parts in Europe than it is in the US.My address is:

    Hello Christoph!

This forum is a great place to start looking for information - there are a lot of regulars that post here and really have some great knowledge and love for the cars.

I am not a member of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane (HET) club yet - but have heard a lot of good things about the members and their ability to help locate hard to find parts and offer up good advice on where to look.

You may be able to find window channels and other parts through a company called KGap 760-868-2284, email Kgaphet@aol.com. Address is PO Box 720976, Pinon Hills, CA 92372

Good Luck with your project and we'd love to see some pictures!

Just for your information, in 1947 Hudson did offer optional directional indicators. So you might want to ask for the switch (that bolts to the steering column) along with the wire raceway and casting (at bottom of raceway, which directs wires neatly up beneath the dashboard). Also you would want to obtain the indicator light which will probably be wired to the switch; this light is mounted in the left side of the dashboard (there is only one light, not a left and right indicator light). And you would of course need the blinker, which may also come attached to the used directional switch that you purchase.

I am not sure how the switch was 'cancelled' after each use, but there may be a pin which is installed in the underside of the steering wheel, which contacts the cancel lever on the switch. Or, you can do as I did when adapting this switch to my 1937 model: attach a hose clamp to the steering shaft so that the screw on the clamp contacts the switch every time the wheel is turned. This has worked for me for 25 years.

I am not sure which front lights were used for signaling, but the rear brakelight lamp was wired to the turn signal in such a way that the filament used for the brakes is shared with the turn signal.

By the way, are you checking the Ebay Motors listings under "Hudson"? There is a lot of good stuff there!
  • Thank you Rambos_Ride and Jon B,

This is some great advice. I will contact the HET club, and see if I can obtain membership. I#d always appreciate information when you stumble across anything, and I will send photos soon.

The car is in restauration in Hungary, at the hands of two very capable specialists who run a restauration shop for all kinds of international automobiles.

    Thanks again.

    Regards,

    Christoph

Christophe, here is a company that sells new window channels, as well as other new hardware for older automobiles. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2005%20catalog%20pdf/2005%20CATALOG.pdf . Look at page 6 for the nomenclature of typical automobile window components, then look at the pages following this in order to see what is for sale.
  • "Chrome strips for the right rear fender/passenger side (three strips, one long, two short ones); and the left rear fender/drivers side (two short strips - I have the long one on that side)."

I have these if you are interested. Let me know.
