700R4 Stepdown installation mods?

What modifications need to be done to mount a 700R4 in a Stepdown other than the engine adapter plate? Any crossmember fabrication, cutting, etc? Does the factory bolt in transmission crossmember get removed or modified?

    Has anyone installed one of these overdrive transmissions?

    Hello,

    I have not installed any GM OD Transmissions, only a Turbo 350 in a '37, a Hydro in a '47 and a Turbo 400 in a '51 Hudson. The 700R4 is a very large Trans, maybe little larger than a Turbo 400. Maybe this info will help out proceding...



    In all installations I 'altered' the rear crossmember by fabricated mounts up to the center 'Adapter' Plate because I didnt like the long heavy Hornet motor & trans assy resting only on the tailshaft mount. It probably would be okay to utilize the rear mount though...



    The '51 I moved the motor way back cut out the middle of the crossmember then fabricated brkts rearward on each side. (The '51 is a Strip Car )
