while working on my front brakes i noticed i have a lot of play in the lower steering pivot pin bushing. i also noticed some of these were selling on ebay for $100. is there a better deal out there? the manual for the car says bushings don't have to be reamed after installed. is this true? the kit on ebay shows some ball bearings. how are they installed? does anyone have any experience in installing the pin kits. thanks for any insight into this, hr

The question pertains to the King pins I believe, not the centre point bearing and shaft. It is true that the bushings do not need reaming - they are a precision fit steel bushing. However, if there is play there, both the pin and bushing will be w9orn, so it pays to replace the whole thing. The ball bearings are inserted through the grease fiting on the top. Full instructions are in the workshop manual.

Getting them out and replaced may require a good shop press and a torch to warm up things, that haven't been apart for 55 years or more. At least thats what it took to change mine out. An automotive machine shop or a shop that does a lot of frontend work especially on older trucks or farm equipment should have someone capable of fixing you up. You will have to remove spindle assemblys from your car, by removing thru adjuster bolts at ends of upper and lower control arms. When you do clean off that area prior to disassembly and note position of spindle , I was told to center the spindle attachment between the ends of the A arms, that will get you in the ballpark for alignment. Yes it will need one of those too, look for an older business or someone familure with older cars. Don't know what area you're in but someone on line here should be able to tell who they've used to get their car alligned. Good Luck Lou Cote0
