i found the 7c model # and a 6 digit serial #. what should be on the title for a vin #? both ran together? thanks, hr

The vin number is six digits and usually confuses the heck out of most DMVs.

If the DMV gets totally confused with your six digit number you can try the "zero" route - as in 7C12345600000000. Most DMV's are not happy to see less than, what is it, 16 alpha numeric numbers.



I know Massachusetts and Ohio are great for this - I know of one fellow that tried to register an old, pre-1920's, car in MA and there were only 3 or 4 digits in the serial number. He had a heck of time.



Don't know if it's coincidental or not, but MA, at least, and I think Ohio also, are title states. Which makes life very interesting should you rescue a car from a junk yard and have no title. Sometimes it's just easier to have a friend in a state with more relaxed title laws to get a title for you. As I did a couple times for a friend of mine in MA, when I lived in Maine. Basically what he did was "sell" the car to me, then I went with bill of sale in hand to the registry office, applied for a title (which cost $50 - handling paper work is expensive LOL) and then "resold" the car back to him. DMV (in MA also means Gestapo) was happy to then give my friend a MA title.

that's exactly why i was wondering. i have used broadway title before for a couple of my chevrolet trucks. i sell it to them and they sell it back and i get a title at my dmv. worked well both times i used them. it's a while away before i do it since i have a lot of work to do, this car has been sitting for years. i just wondered if the # was just the six digits, 7c??????, a space between them, or what. maybe i should just add the zeros to the whole thing when i send it to them. try to fly under the radar, so to speak. hr

7C is the model number, not part of the VIN.

I registed it with the model number as part of the vin. It does tell you the model and year if you know what you're looking at. The dmv sure doesn't. Also usually register mine through a currency exchange and haven't had a problem yet.

Here In Michigan When You Buy A Car, You Have To Pay Sales Tax When Registering, Doesn't That Make It Alittle Expensive, To Pay Tax Twice?

thank you all. i think i will use the model # and vin# followed by zeros when the time comes, so as not to stand out. i didn't pay any tax on it when i bought it since it was just a junker in a shed with no title. i will just pay the tax once i get it ready to pass inspection and "buy" it back. thanks again
