51hornetA : The only article I could find by Ray Barker was about power steering. I'm not good finding things on computer. Would you please be more specific how to find installing seat belts. Thank you. Lee0 -
Jim,
I have ordered a set for my step down and my Terraplane through a place called www.seatbeltpros.com Good service and reasonable prices. The belts are of good quality also.0 -
Any one have pics of the installation of the shoulder mounting point?
Pics would be great and very helpful, help us to ride more safely too. We're interested in '47 and stepdowns. Thanks we really enjoy this forum. Hudsonly, Bob0 -
Regarding installing Shoulder Belts I can only speak to retrofitting in two '47 Trucks. I found a point in the top back corners that I double plated to utilize.
I would think installing shoulder belts into a Sdn would be easy (for the front seat anyway) using the door Posts.0 -

Did you get what you need from 51HornetA's Web Site? I do not have pictures of the top bracket that is welded to the B pillar, but I can take pictures of the balance as I am going to install them with in the next week or two.0 -

I was logged in to your site but it would not let me download Ray Barker,s Info, said I had to be a member.0 -
I downloaded Ray Barkers write up previously. It is well written and has lots of helpful pictures. I don't remember it listing part sources and numbers.
I purchased lap belts from Julianos Hot rods
http://www.julianos.com/
They are very nice and I plan to install their compact retractable shoulder belts this year.

Hi Sean,
Yes I actually printed out that article , its excellent and that is going to be my guide for doing the job.
I'm just looking for a good source now of the actual hardware.
By the way I'm going to be in Edmonton this week.0 -
I'll have to have a closer look at his article, didn't realize he had sources in it as well, hopefully they are Canadian sources.0
-
Nope, he doesn't list sources in his article. I'm hoping to locate a Canadian source to avoid the high cost of shipping from the US.0
-
Check out some Canadian hot rod mags. I would think someone woud be advertising these.0

In the forum he states he got the seat belts from ebay. Similar the the ones JC Whitney sold.0

Hey boys ray Barker here as stated in Download I bought seat belts on ebay They are made by autoloc which you could buy direct but here is the link as posted on ebay. Lap belts and shoulder belts are sold separately be sure to specify either chrome or red push button when ordering them separately.

Does anyone know if Michigan requires seat and/or shoulder belts on older cars like our Hudsons? In Illinois the requirement is exempted for such cars, I am told.0

Michigan specifically I don't know, but most states require that cars that came with seatbelts still have them, and cars that have seat belts installed passengers use those seatbelts. Basically, any car that didn't originally have shoulder belts is not required to have them installed.0 -

Hi Ol racer. I have a 47 pu and want to instal shoulder belts. Would you explain and post pictures to show how you double plated and installed your belt system. Thanks. Lee0 -

In Michigan they are not required if not originally equipped. I installed lap belts in my stepdown anyway. It was easy to do. I understand that lap belts only offer minimal safety improvement; shoulder belts are the way to go providing the structure of the car will handle the loads. My main concern was the child safety seats in the rear (this was 18 years ago, before tethered car-seats for children).
I would rather not try to explain the law to an officer at a seatbelt checkpoint.0 -
39CCL8, Thanks for the info regarding the Michigan law. I hope to drive a stepdown to Pontiac this July and didn't want to run into any problems.0
