anyone know where i can send out my rear shocks to be rebuilt? i seem to be sagging back there somewhat.

when i have someone of normal stature in the back seat and back up it sounds like the rear wheels are rubbing the fenders. so i would like to get them done .

i agree with hudson308, this sounds like a spring problem. i would also suggest finding a shop to re-arch your springs. regards, tom

Definitely a spring sag problem. My spec book says the rears for a '31 Hudson should have a free arch of 8". That's with the spirng out of the car.

Each leaf should have the same curvature.

A general way to check for spring height is the way the car sits when empty. Normally the running boards should be slightly downhill towards the front, and level when you have afull passenger load. I don't see how brake rods could make any difference tot he ride height. Normally you have to take the springs out and check the free arch against each other, that they are both the same. Also when dismantled, the leaves should be of the same arching. be careful when removing the centre bolt - there is sometimes some quite latent tension between the leaves and they can spring apart savagely. It pays to clamp the assembly before removing the centre bolt. I recommed taking to a specialist springmaker who will re-set them and temper them correctly. I have done them myself, cold, but it requires a very heavy hammer and lots of patience.

  • i think the brakes are dragging when i back up with a load it pushes down and the brake rod applies the brakes and it feels like the wheels are runbbing fender sitting it does tilt forward some .

have bigger fish right now i bought a set of gaskets for the head. put them on and had water in oil. so i took off heads here i got a 1931 gasket and a 1930 gasket and i didnt check them closely just tossed them on and went with it. here the 31 has 2 little holes in the front where the 30 has a large hole or vise versa i have some picks if you want to see e mail me sellsauction@1st.net any way so i took the heads to be checked ,cleaned and new freeze plugs etc installed, and the guy suggested new head bolts and leant me a tool that was awesome to get them out with! but broke off 2 , he is going to come by and drill and tap out those ones for me . he is a real handy one 76 years old and is a true wizzard! he also is going to set my timing and points and hopefully solve all of my engine issues at once!

i plan tomarrow to tackle the lighting and install new wire where need be and get those all working as they should . i think i shall adjust the brake rods out some and try that before taking off springs.

    i apreciate all your help.

i do need to paint heads any suggestions on what brand etc. what about color?

    thanks
